hi!
The talk of running at the Christmas meal has inspired me to start up again, so i did session 1 of week 1 'couch potato to 5k'. It was surprisingly ok. I wouldnt say enjoyable - far too cold for that. Anyone else doing any? SP - want to make me jealous of your runnig prowess?

Yes i was talking about this with DP yesterday! think i need some lighter evenings though, can't really go running around here in the dark. perhaps i just need some inspiration!

Mung · 16/12/2008 08:39

You are kidding

Hats off to you Pooter...but you wont draw me in.

pooter · 16/12/2008 19:23

oh mung - you are the one who started me off last year! Im going to do it tomorrow too (am lucky cos Dh is off work so can look after DS in the daytime - you are right lucyfer- i wouldnt fancy doing it in the dark.)

Did 20 mins on the treadmill at the gym the other night - nearly died of boredom! I don't think I'll be able to get above 30 mins on the contraption... there's only so long I can stare at the wall! And I certainly don't want to be watching myself get redder and redding in the mirror! !

Will probably see if I've got time to get out during the day at the weekend. It's the dark nights that mess me up as well. Hence the treadmill

Oh Mung ... this was all your fault in the first place!

pooter · 17/12/2008 19:05

yay SP!! I always took a book to the treadmill got a few odd looks mind you!

OP posts:
SparklyPrincess · 17/12/2008 23:24

You're not working hard enough if you can hold a book!! I'd drop it out of my sweaty awful mitts!

[need a cracking whip emoticon!]

I think I might listen to some podcasts or something other than just music.

MadameCastafiore · 18/12/2008 14:09

Oh dear I can't exercise until after xmas as a rise in blood pressure would mean I could have disasterous nosebleed!

What a shame - am back to step and running after xmas though now we have the doggy staying at home and not crapping everywhere sorted!

Well done though Pooter - very good of you to be running in this weather!

pooter · 07/01/2009 23:18

Well, you will be glad to hear Im not posting about how much ive run - 'cos i havent been out once! We all got the lurgy, and just as im clearing it, and thoughts turn to running i go and injure my knee.

At babygym

Showing off

on the trampoline

doing a somersault

I must remember i am OLD and not able to arse about like a 20yr old

So - please tell me you have all been cuddling up inside and not running too!

lucyfer2000 · 08/01/2009 09:21

Oh dear Pooter hope it is not too badly injured!! hope it wasn't too embarrasing - did you manage to slink off without anyone noticing or was it a full on drama!?

As for running - are you mental!!! When i drove home on Tuesday night the car was reading -5 degrees!!! definitely not running weather...

I do seriously need to do some exercise and can't keep coming up with excuses might have to get the exercise dvd's out and annoy the kids.

Happy New Year to you all by the way. I think I have just managed to come out of the madness of the festive season now!!

SparklyPrincess · 10/01/2009 23:13

Hope you feel better soon, pooter.

I went out running today - it was soo cold, but really beautiful and frosty icy in Highwoods which kind of made up for it. And I was wearing gloves, which feels kind of wierd, but glad I did!

Did 25 mins, was a bit of a struggle but I'm suffering a bit from Wii injuries (dh's xmas pressie to himself!), must force myself to go use the treadmill a couple of evenings this week.

Hopefully see you all soon!

SparklyPrincess · 23/02/2009 17:53

How slack have we been??

Went out this morning (shoving buggy around [ow]); I'm doing the couch to 5k thing, but starting on week 5. Did it, but it was pretty tough. Really didn't think I was going anywhere with hills, but ...

Is anyone going to sign up to RFL? I'm not doing it on my own!

pooter · 24/02/2009 14:18

hi SP, well done! was it really hard pushing a buggy? do you have a normal one? how bumpy for the passenger do you think it was? Just thinking of doing that myself, but to be honest, i cant be bothered at the mo. its seems like DH and myself have been ill for about 2 months with different forms of cold/flu/migraine etc. Im so fed up of it!!

Im up for RFL. I need a goal. Im hoping to feel well enough to start couch potato again. From week 0!!

We have started a little running club in our village - I am the Seargent Major as they are all weaklings - I have so far made them run 5k - only stopping once. But they have been practicing since xmas.

We are doing the breast cancer run thing in Highlands park on June 26th.

So if anyone wants to join - my house 8.30 Tues, Fri and 7.15 Sunday.

Pooter books and treadmills mean you are not working hard enough.

SparklyPrincess · 24/02/2009 23:39

Do you mean race for life on the 26th, MC? You've confused me ...

Let me know what race you want to do Pooter - I'd rather do one in Colchester so I haven't got to faff around driving. There's 2 in castle park on May 17th - does that give you enough time to train? I'm giving myself a month to get back up to 5k, cos of the passenger. After that I'll probably get back out in the evenings. Might come and join you in a few weeks MC. How fast are you doing 5k??

Pooter, running with the buggy is harder. I've got a P&Ts so proper tyres and quite light. DD2 thinks its hilarious. I do try to avoid particularly bumpy paths though.

SparklyPrincess · 25/02/2009 10:44

I'm going to bore everyone with my training runs in order to motivate myself by not wanting to embarrass myself!

Week 5, run 2 done this morning ...

pooter · 25/02/2009 16:43

well done SP. It isnt boring in the least - its good, cos every time i read your posts i will think 'i must go out!'.

I reckon May 17 is enough time to train (hahahahahahahahahahahah) sorry, hyperventilated there a bit. But the couch potato thing is 9/10 weeks isnt it - so providing i get well (still not able to go out ) i sould be able to do it. Although i have to warn you, we will only be together for the first minute or so of the race, then you can run on ahead while i take the first of many breathers! (i will do my best though)

OP posts:
SparklyPrincess · 25/02/2009 18:12

The couch to 5k is 9 weeks if you follow it to the letter and go out 3 times a week every week. That also gets you up to running 30 mins, which isn't necessarily 5k!

I thought the point was that you wanted to run the whole thing this time??!

When are you planning on training, perhaps we could fit in some runs together when you get going? Or meet up with the Sgt Mjr in Kelvedon ...

pooter · 25/02/2009 20:31

Im planning to run after my lectures, whilst DS is still at nursery, so that would be around the campus, but that depends on homework, so i'd probably do the following;

  1. at the weekend
  2. after a lecture
  3. pushing a buggy sometime on mon/wed/fri afternoons - if you were free then, it would be great to get together (just give me a few weeks to get myself going!!)

I may need more than a few weeks to be ready for Madame Im scared at the thought!!

OP posts:
SparklyPrincess · 25/02/2009 22:39

Sorry, can't do afternoons as I'd have to push the buggy with both of the girls in it . I'm probably going to start going evenings once it's light enough; I want to try to get past 5k at some point and there's no way that's going to happen with the buggy!

SparklyPrincess · 02/03/2009 10:50

How are you doing, Pooter? Feeling well enough to get out yet.

Did 21 mins with the buggy today...
