Good places to eat with DC reasonably close to Exeter?

Whenever we decide a Sunday lunch out would be nice we end up spending several hours trying to think of somewhere new and then go to Downes Farm or Bickleigh Mill. They're both great places but we're starting to feel in a bit of a rut.

DS is only 6 months so we normally take something for him. Places with a tolerant attitude to mess probably more crucial at this stage than actual childrens menu.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I was going to say Downes Farm but fot somewhere different the Kings arms at Tedburn is nice or the Waie inn at Zeal Monocarum (spelling?) especially when your ds is older to enjoy the play area.

I wish we ended up at somewhere like Bickleigh Mill as that's about 10 mins from us but we only ever make it as far as Wetherspoons! Sorry that wasn't much help but i'll be looking out for other replies for inspiration!

The only places we took our DS was when he was small and it was summer so we could go outside, i'm not sure of places where children are allowed etc!

I think most places allow children, it's just nice to find somewhere where they actually like them!

Was definitely a lot easier in summer...

Places around Exeter which we find easy to eat at with our children include Double Locks and Turf pubs on the river (the latter only in summer) with big gardens, in the city centre Wagamamas and Cafe Rouge are very child-friendly. And places like Pizza Express.

There's a pub with hideous food at Dawlish Warren, the Boat House I think it's called, which we used to go to occasionally becuase of the life-size pirate decor and soft play area. My children liked it.

Darts Farm is quite good with small children too. And the pub near there, the George and Dragon I think it's called.

I second the Waie Inn and Darts Farm, the fish and chips are unbelievable In Exeter itself, the places that I am happy to take my dc to (they are 4 and 6 months) are Wagamamas (though there might be space issues with a buggy), Giraffe, Nandos, Pizza Express and Cafe Boulevard, which is in Harlequin Centre by the Habitat entrance. Have bf quite happily in all these places, and dd has left her mark as well Georges Meeting Place is a Wetherspoons too but makes a change from the Imperial.

Also there's the cafe area of Foodeaze, that has lots of space and some nice food.

And Dinky's cafe, just behind Foodeaze, is worth checking out when your dc gets to toddling, but it's probably not open on Sundays.

Dinosaur cafe by the clock tower is very friendly towards children, though it gets very crowded, it has a box of toys too.

Down at the Quays are a couple of cafes with decent food and boxes of toys - Mangos at the Quay, and something I can't remember the name of at Piazza Terracina on the west of the river.

Oh I love it at Darts Farm!

I love Darts farm too although I've never actually got round to eating there. Last time we tried the queue was out the door - which is probably a good sign for quality but I'm a bit lacking in patience. Must be worth a go in Jan.

Good suggestions
