Hi everyone

Have just found out Im pregnant (nearly 7 weeks) and midwife has given me loads of information about hospitals in time for my booking appointment next week.

One thing I cant decide is which hospital would be best (I live in chapel allerton so distance is about the same)

Do any of you ladies have any good / bad experiences or can you share with me how you made your decision.

ta very much

LGI. Had three of mine there...Hugh was wonderful...nigel simpson is a brillian consultant if you can get him (works under Prof Drife)

Jimmys...I had my hysterectomy there and my treatment for cervical nasties and I wouldn't go near the place again with a bargepole...bloody awful it was

Harrogate has high CS rate. LGI great for DD1, but also had fab homebirth with DD2 (just a thought!)

LadyB
Jimmies is the old workhouse, not LGI, and that does not bear any relation to the care you will receive in either hospital. What a silly post.

Thank you all for the advice.

After talking it through wit the midwife I have decided on Jimmys...its seems that there isnt much to differentiate when it comes to the standard of care (and I dont really want a water birth !), Ive heard good and bad stories about both.

In the end the midwife said that you get an en suite at Jimmys but not at the LGI...that swung it for me !

LGI - deffo. I also live in Chapel Allerton. I spent two weeks as in patient there and saw my consultant every two weeks for the entire pregnancy (identical twins). Don't have a bad word to say about the staff or the place.

I remember Hugh too - he was fabulous. Spent an hour helping my DD2 to latch on. He was so supportive, ever so gentle and didn't tell me off for being tired and rather slow in the nappy changing deprtment (like evil woman mid wife...!. He wasn't there at LGI when I had DD3 in July tho

Also - LGI have a fantastic team of Ante-natal daycare staff. I had cholestasis of pregnancy in last two pregnancies and they made it bearable. Best bit was being told to get out my diary to see which day would suit me best for induction - I fet like a celebrity! I rate the LGI above Jimmy's to be honest - it just seems more cheerful.

I had a lovely en-suite at LGI

Jimmys... the big difference is that LGI only has 4 en suites rooms - Jimmys has 10 - en suites I think - very helpful. They dont support water birth at Jimmys - but you are not always guarenteed to get it - it all goes down to availablility. I had 2 dcs at Jimmys and the obstetricians were absoloutely wonderful. Like everything in life its who you get on the day midwife wise. On the post natal wards its worth knowing that you can ask for a private room(you have to pay extra) but worth the peace and the privacy of your own bathroom and toilet if its available.

lgi has 'home from home' en suites. i had dd there and will have my next there too. wouldn't dream of goingto jimmy's as that's where i had my erpc.

I've had both my children at St. James and have opted for that hospital for my third as well. I've heard bad things about LGI (lots of MRSA cases for one thing) and am quite happy to use St. James.
