hi, have recently been made redundant and have taken my nearly three year old daughter out of nursery. Am exited but also daunted by being a fulltime mum again after being at work since my daughter was 1 and a bit out of the loop. Does anyone have any suggestions for good activities in the London Fields area? Any suggestions gratefully received!

Music in Hackney Museum on Fridays..
I know lots about groups in stokey but not so much around L Fields..I think the Ann Taylor centre does stuff too

check what is going on in your local libary - mine do weekly story sessions (free)

the soft play place by Clapton Pond is pretty good (nice tea) - Kidz Mania?

is there a playground in London Fields? The one in Heckney Downs is good (DS loves it) and you have zillions of other parks to choose from (make the most of the good weather)

London Fields has 2 playgrouonds, one at the Broadway Markey end, and one at the Richmond Road end. I think the Richmond Rd one is perhaps more suitable for little ones?

I grew up next to London Fields and loved going to the outdoor swimming pool / paddling pool when I was very little, and the pool is now open again. (Is the paddling pool open again too? )
Perhaps one for next year though when it gets warm again though as it's open air?!

Indoor pools / leisure centres with classes for children are Clissold Pool (shiney and new) Britannia and Kings Hall (Clapton). Would it be worth getting a Hackney leisure card? Especially is you meet their criteria for concessions it can save you money on their facilitles www.hackney.gov.uk/cs-sports-leisure-card.htm

That's all though as I'm a mum-to be, and am drawing on my childhood memories growing up in London Fields, not recent experience!

Ann Tayler Centre (bottom of London Fields):
Music & Movement 2-5s Mondays 11-11.45
0-2 drop-in Tuesdays & Thursdays 10-12
0-5 drop-in on Wednesdays at 10-12
Other activities on (e.g. toy library) - just ask for a timetable when you go there.

Mapledene Centre is not far - I think they have drop-ins every day 10-12.

Sebright Centre not far either - apparently their music & movement is very good, and they have a cookery / play session on a Wednesday. Again, drop by for a full timetable.

Hackney Museum (same building as library) music & movement Tuesdays & Fridays (2 sessions, one at 10am and one at 11). V popular so get there by 9.30am to register for early session - registration for 2nd session starts at 10.

Hackney Central library
Story time Friday 11-11.30ish, followed by a colouring in session.
Toy library/play session Tuesday about 10.30-12 I think.

All free!

Hiya,

Can anyone recommend activities / groups I can go to with a very young baby?

janx · 06/01/2009 21:11

Are you bfeeding. If so there is a nice small group at Linden Road Chidren's centre on a Monday. Its on Rectory Rd. I also did a nice baby massage course there.

Lowrib- quite a few young babies at the playgroups at Salvation Army on Lower Clapton Rd (M,T,W mornings) and Round Chapel (M,T mornings) Lots of mums, dads, babies and toddlers at both, pretty relaxed...nothing too structured!

Church on the corner of Lavendar Grove has a playgroup on Friday morning (not run by the church iyswim) 10 - 11:30. Also in that adventure playground (struggles to think of name) off Mapledene there is a good art club on Weds and Thurs mornings for toddlers.
