So just what can i DO with DS (19mo) in the afternoons??

pooter · 19/09/2008 23:24

Mornings are taken care of - we have so many activities/meetups that we cant do them all.

(i HAVE to get out of the house at least once in the morning and once in the afternoon, otherwise i start climbing the walls )

So far, i have Leisureworld leisure pool 3.30pm, and i will be at uni and DS will be in nursery (yikes....scared...) on Thursday afternoons, but that leaves three afternoons that need filling up with STUFFFFF.

Any suggestions? There's always mumsnet meetups of course - although the thursday lectures scuppers that one a little!

Hhhmmm.....how about something like Tumble Tots?

My friend takes her little boy & he loves it - she not so much as apparently the parents have to join is just as much

I don't know if they do something similar in Colchester but down here one of the HV's organises a Mum & Baby walk, we all meet up with the babies in prams at a meet point & go for long walks together - it gets us out the house, gets me exercising & the babies get lots of fresh air. The HV comes along too to sort of take charge but it's very friendly & good fun

pooter · 20/09/2008 12:14

Ta mrs M, it seems as though everything for toddlers in Colchester takes place in the mornings. He would LOVE to go to babygym more than once a week, but it only happens in the mornings and we are all booked up!

The library is doing story time at the library at 2:30, but only once a month, I think. I have the same problem, ds is the same age and we are always looking for stuff to do in the afternoon besides park and library.

JentlyDoesIt · 20/09/2008 13:58

I have that problem too DS gets so BORED in the afternoons

The Colchester Baby Book might have some ideas, I'll see if I can dig it out. There's always the zoo if you have a Gold Card, there's a soft play area and lots of stuff to do.

MrsMagooo · 20/09/2008 16:53

OOo yes the Zoo is fab - I have a Gold Card & it's so worth getting one - even just an hour or two at the zoo wipes the kiddies out

Twims · 20/09/2008 19:35

Shame you're busy on a Thursday afternoon as there is a great artclub on in Shrub end.

But what about

Monday 1.15 - 2pm - Music for Little People in Stanway; classes offer parents/carers and children an opportunity to explore the foundations of music in a fun and interactive way. Developed by Karen Dickinson MA LTCL, a specialist in early years music, the classes introduce a variety of appropriate music from many different cultural traditions.

Monday 1-2 - All about 1's - Parents with children aged 1 - 2 years old. Different themes every week with activities for little ones and their mums - Greenstead community centre.

Tuesday 1.30 - 2.30 Art and craft as well as snack and singing at the ormiston centre, greenstead - it's great fun been along myself

Tuesday 1-2.30 Mums and tots - Compton Road

Wednesday 1- 2.50 Mums and Tots - Canterbury Road,

Friday PM - Friday club for 1-4 year olds at St Peters church north hill - "Friday Club is a fun, lively group for 1 - 4 year olds. Come and enjoy 90 mins of activities designed to challenge and entertain your child. From 3 to 4.30 pm every Fri, £3.50 per session"

Hope that helps

pooter · 20/09/2008 19:46

OOOh, Twims - what a fantastic reply! Thankyou!

I will definately try the Friday Club - all the others are slap bang in the middle of the unmovable nap time, much as i love the sound ot Music for little people!

Zoo is another good idea. I took him last for his first b'day and he wasnt really fussed. Perhaps now he would enjoy it more.

Hi Twims do you have any more info on the mums and tots on compton road? that is very very close to me so that may be great for me and DS.

pooter · 21/09/2008 21:56

Im going to try Friday club this week if anyone wants to join me

I also took DS and DH to the zoo today and i got a gold card, so thank you for all your suggestions!!

purpleflower how are you - bouncing on a gymball getting the little one in a good position? Im thinking of you and sending stretchy vibes your way ((purple))

I keep forgetting to pick the gym ball up from my cousins I did try bouncing on the trampoline.

I just really don't want it to be late and come on DS's birthday.

Been having some niggles this morning but doubt it is it

JentlyDoesIt · 22/09/2008 11:11

Purpleflower, try all the old wives tales, they can't hurt...

Raspberry leaf tea, fresh pineapple, curries, sex, etc. Can't be any more help I'm afraid, as I have actually never gone into labour!!! Fingers crossed it happens soon for you.

purpleflower · 22/09/2008 11:14

I'm definitely trying the curry tonight, with DS i was having weak contractions on friday but nothing on saturday. I had a curry saturday night and woke up in labour on sunday morning. Just need to wait for DP to get home tonight as I have no car to get to the shop.

SparklyPrincess · 22/09/2008 13:19

Pooter - Friday Club isn't on at the moment. Not sure where you found that, Twims - on the internet, I assume? They actually changed the time to the morning last year (we used to go!) and its not on at the moment cos the organiser has just had a baby.

Sorry ...

Whats the art club in Shrub End (Not exactly sure where Shrub End is anyway but ...

SparklyPrincess · 22/09/2008 13:24

Meant to say Pooter, I normally just drag my two to either Highwoods or the local playground if they're climbing the walls in the afternoon.

They've put a new playground in on Mill Road which is quite nice. DD2 (18 mnths) approves, anyway! - not sure if that's too much of a trek for you! DD2 (18 mnths) approves, anyway!

Mind you tbh, if I've taken them out once already I generally can't be bothered and just pass them the crayons!

MrsMagooo · 22/09/2008 14:20

Purpleflower hope baby makes an appearnce for you soon!

I swear reflexology did the trick for me!

The lady who does it is lovely, she comes to your house & charges £25 for an hours session - it's utter bliss so even if it doesn't bring baby on it'll really relax you.

Sending lots of

pooter · 22/09/2008 17:38

oh pants - i was looking forward to friday club! Thanks for the warning SP . DH and i took DS to the new playground at the weekend - its way too far to walk from here, but its really good isnt it! I went on most things, but the weird whirly yellow cup thing got out of control with me, and i whizzed round so fast my shoes flew off in opposite directions and DH had to rescue me! I had to rescue two children too! But its great!!

JentlyDoesIt · 22/09/2008 20:18

PMSL - sorry Pooter but that's hilarious, I've got the most wonderful image of you, stuck in a yellow tea cup with no shoes...

lucyfer2000 · 22/09/2008 22:24

Hi Pooter,

glad you enjoyed the zoo. my kids love it and we often pop down there in the afternoon to waste away a couple of hours feeding the giraffes and playing in the park areas! have to meet you (and maybe some other gold card holders!!) down there some time.

SparklyPrincess · 23/09/2008 15:09

I'm always up for an impromptu meet in the zoo! Love to flash the platinum card!

The teacups a bit of a trial, isn't it pooter! DD1 one had a go, then got upset and had to come out. DD2 thinks its hilarious!
