New to Ipswich are and wondering if a meet-up is imminent?

It doesn't look like there has been much success in getting the Suffolk mumsnetters together.

I'd love the chance to meet up with someone. I moved here in the summer and have left family and friends far, far away.

I have 2 DDs, one is in Y1 at school and the other has just started nursery. I'm having doubts about the nursery but have met so few people with whom to discuss these types of things. I feel quite lost in that respect!

I'm enjoying living in Ipswich so far, aside from worrying about the children all the time. There is a lot to do here for families and as towns go, it's easy to get around.

Anyway, if anyone out there would like to meet-up, let's see if we can arrange something.

Hi HS,

Its always hard when you move to a new town.
I know there have been a couple of attempts to organise an Ipswich meet up and I am sure that the person that normally deals with all that will be along shortly.

I am moving shortly and I know how worrying the Nursery issue is. I am currently trying to find one that lives up to the one we use here. It is great! Its called Puddle Ducks Kinder care and I cannot recommend it enough.
Telephone: 01473690240 and ask for Kerry or Carolin for more info.

What concerns do you have about your current Nursery?

I wont be coming to any meet ups but understand what it is like to move to a new area.

HorseStories · 17/09/2008 10:43

The nursery is great in some respects and I don't feel like DD2's safety is compromised. Nor is she unhappy - quite the opposite, but then she is a go-with-the-flow type of child.

What irks me is how unenthusiastic the staff seem. There's no evident joy in the place during drop-off and pick-up time. You're lucky if the staff even acknowledge that you've turned up. I'm not used to the lack of link between childcare/pre-school and home. DD1 has been in two great nursery/Pre-schools and DD2 was with a great childminder.

I won't move her until I find a job, because I may have to move her at that point anyway. But thanks for the recommendation. I should have got these recommendations 6 months ago when I knew we were moving.

I would be concerned about the lack of enthusiasm as well. Have you tried raising this with the nursery manager? I think very often you have to go on a gut instinct with these things.
I am sure there will be other recommendations of other nurseries in the area, I have only used the one so my experience is limited.

I hope it all works out OK for you.

HorseStories · 17/09/2008 11:25

DD2 has been invited to a party by a girl from her nursery so I will use that opportunity to sound out the other parents and see if the lack of enthusiasm is the norm.

Hi Horsestories. I'd be happy to meet up, as I moved to Ipswich last year and still know no one. My dd is at The Willows, which is a great nursery, if that helps.

HorseStories · 23/09/2008 16:27

Hi TheShipsCat. It's funny that you mention The Willows as another mother mentioned that one to me last week. I don't suppose they would have places anytime soon even if I wanted to switch but I could look at it for next year. DD2 has 2 more years until she starts school.

I'd love to meet up. Do you think this is a difficult town in which to get to know people? I don't know what to make of it yet. I came here from a village on the South Coast so I am liking living in a town which is easy to get around, less traffic and access to more accessible countryside. But I can see it is going to be a long time until i feel I belong here. It doesn't appear to be much of an incomers town and I meet a lot of people at DD1's school who have lived here their whole lives.

Anyway, whereabouts are you? Where did you move from? What's your weekly schedule like? Do you have a good day to meet up? Ideas of where to meet?

I am in the North of the town.

Im just down the road in Felixstowe.

What nursery are you using at the moment?

I have 3 under 5yrs old, its hard work but fun!

Am up for any meet that might happen!

Mornings or weekends are best as DD1 is part-time reception until easter x

HorseStories · 23/09/2008 16:38

It's in the vicinity of the private school in the CC park area. I'd rather not write the name of either here.

No Nicky, "the person that normally deals with all that" will not be along shortly, because as you are well aware your stalking me on Mumsnet has meant that I do not get involved anywhere near as much anymore, and certainly not on a local level.

DanJARMouse · 26/09/2008 19:18

You do make me laugh POC

CherryChapstick · 26/09/2008 19:18

Woah! POTC, Everything alright? Do you want me to send the boys round? (Goober)

PillockOfTheCommunity · 26/09/2008 19:36

Sorry!
You know that stalker I was pissed off with JARM? that would have been the very person that posted that quote, so she knows full well what my talk name is!

And yes Goober, if you don't mind
There's already 'boys' going round sent by one of my colleagues but you know, can never have too many

PillockOfTheCommunity · 26/09/2008 19:37

Still, I know more than she does so I'll just keep smiling sweetly and covering it up

DanJARMouse · 26/09/2008 19:40

We still love ya POC!

(Heard about xmas meet and venue been shut down coz of guns n stuff - u sure u still wanna go?!)

PillockOfTheCommunity · 26/09/2008 19:47

WHA????? I haven't heard that!!!!

Goober - how are things now?

DanJARMouse · 26/09/2008 19:55

ill bump the thread for you - Dust license revoked

CherryChapstick · 26/09/2008 19:56

Not too bad, M'love.
Did you ever get all the paint cleaned out of your kitchen?

PillockOfTheCommunity · 26/09/2008 20:10

Nope, the wall still has handprints, as does the freezer

CherryChapstick · 26/09/2008 20:12

Umm!
Do you grin when you look at it, or scowl?

PillockOfTheCommunity · 26/09/2008 20:17

grin

and then ponder if there is any way of shifting it!

CherryChapstick · 26/09/2008 20:53

Bless!
This will sound very silly, but I find "Hob Brite" oven hob cleaner shifts everything. Might be worth a go, Tesco do it.
I think you will regret getting it off though, tis a momento.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 26/09/2008 20:56

When the freezer stops working I could mount the door on the wall

CherryChapstick · 26/09/2008 21:02

You could just change the door of your new freezer, make sure when you buy the new one that it measures the same. It will be fine.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 26/09/2008 21:11

that's a plan, I like it

the floor is beyond saving, but that's not as artistic looking!
