Newish in Wellingborough and looking to make some friends

I have been in Wellingborough for just over a year now with my husband and our Daugter is now nearly 10 months old.

I am starting to meet people but cant find many in Wellingborough.

If anyone is interested in chatting or meeting up let me know

Does this group close in the school holidays. I am involved in other groups - nothing like this one. In Northampton with a school run but would love to pop in sometime if I ever got a chance of not doing a school run - it sounds fab!

yes they do close in the summer holidays, but are usually open during the half terms...

Hello again! Sorry -- you didn't upset me. I just keep losing mn local from topic list and so you all sort of disappear...

Cazyb - I'm not religious at all either so I couldn't/wouldn't go to the church playgroups. I go to the 'family' centre at Highfield Nursery (Finedon road) which is run by surestart. There is a playgroup on Tuesdays and thurs (some sessions might be full at the moment, but you could ring and find out about booking) where you just go and hang out with your DCs. The people there are quite a mixture and very lovely on the whole (and it's free), and they've provided different things for different age groups (0-3 years, I think) so a 10m old would certainly find lots to do.

There is a also session for younger kids (under 18m) on wednesdays which I was going to try with DS alone as he's just getting enthusiastic about being out and about doing kids' things (rather than just following me and DD in the buggy).

I think surestart do loads more activities around Wellingborough -- there is a general timetable available which you could look at. There might be something nearer you (or something you'd prefer).

Let me know if you try jumping jax -- I think DD might like it (and DS will just sit there looking fed up at not being able to crawl).

Hiya all.

Jumpin Jax was great for the older ones, but there are toys and mats for the littler ones and you dont have to pay.. so it was ok.. I find it hard as I judge them on a class that I go to in mk which prob isnt fair.

I am a bit anti surestart... its silly but I dont live far from the one in queensway and when I first took my little one there to be weighed the other mums were so rude it has put me off every trying a class there. its very silly isnt it.
plus i find thier general timetable confusing as i dont know whicg=h classas are suitabke. open to suggestions tho.

the church class I will give a go and see what its like.. anything to make mates in welly

Cazyb - I don't like the Surestart Centre up on Queensway - but IME most of the Surestart groups down at Croyland are lovely.

I am glad that you said that, when I have saifd I didnt like it before people have thought I was mad!

I will try the croyland one, I just need to figure out that damn timetable of thiers.

Highfields nursery has really good playgroups, tues - thursday I believe. Give them a ring in september.

Hi,
I am new to the forum and a mum on 2 boys who are 5 and 4. Currently started working in the SureStart centre that has just been built in Irthlingborough.So not too far from you guys by all accounts. Just to let you know that there are various activities happening through the area. Just depends if you have transport? From the Childrens centres in Raunds, Irthlingborough, Higham, wellingborough etc, which are all free to the county parks Irchester, F.Woods & even Stanwick lakes. These however, do charge a small fee for the activities and you do need to book.

Hope you can get book in and enjoy your summer with the little one.[Smile]

Hi - I run a group from a church hall in Northampton 9.30 to 11 - no religion comes into it at all - it's just a place to meet up, have tea and cake, kids/babies play and everyone feels like they've had an outing - it's only £1 per family so let me know if you keen to join us - we would love some new faces

hi i live in Rushden i lived here nearly 4 years i orginally come from bedford im finding very hard to get to know people up here.

Just saying hello - am not near Rushden - but am for a wee while longer at least a Northants girl. Are you working or a SAHP? I found too it can take a long time to make friends, especially in a settled community where the mums have all gone to school together and their families all live nearby too.

yeah very hard we have to get on here cant move back makes me very depressed as the depression gets worse. i trying to do postive things going to a class wednesdays bellydancing.

It;s good your ds has settled in so quickly and made friends, and as they get bigger they will naturally gravitate to each other's houses. And you're much better than me about finding something to do for yourself. How long have you been in Rushden?

Guess at the end of the day mum's just want to get them home and fed but next year it will be different as yr 1s start whining "can I go to so-and-so's house"

i been in rushden nearly fours years yeah he wants friends to come over i said to him i can only try.where abouts do you live? how many children do you have? i only got my boy cant afford anymore also not a good labour so put me off having anymore.
