Hello ladies

Been a member of mumsnet for a while now but didn't realise we had a Colchester section (joined mainly for the pram talk - I'm a self confessed pramaholic lol)!

My name's Kymberly, married to Andy & we have a little girl Ava who turns two next week & our second baby, a little boy, is due in 7 weeks!

I live about 20 mins down the road from Colchester

Hi MLP! Welcome.I'm a newbie too.

I'm Jo,married to Paul,and have DS 12, DD1 3.11 and DD2 20 mths.

Which way down the road?

I'm up at North Station end,but we have some that are Coggeshall and Kelvedon based.

One of our group has recently had a baby,so you'll have alot in common.

Dynamicnanny · 14/06/2008 19:18

Hi Kymberly, I'm Georgina, and a nanny in central Colchester - welcome to the board

MummyLovesPrams · 14/06/2008 19:35

Thanks ladies

Nice to meet you both

I'm over Frinton way - so not to far.

I don't drive (hoping to learn next year finances permitting) but the train station is literally at the bottom of our road so easy for me to get about

Xx

Sawyer64 · 14/06/2008 19:59

We'll have to have one of our meet-ups at Frinton then, that'll be nice,at the seaside.

MummyLovesPrams · 14/06/2008 20:26

That would be fab

Walton is lovely too - I quite often take Ava onto the pier with a handful of 2p's lol!

I'm not getting out a great deal at the moment as been feeling so poorly with this pregnancy - looking forward to my little man being here & getting out & about more again!

Do you have meet ups frequently?

Xx

Sawyer64 · 14/06/2008 21:34

The "girls" usually meet once a week,a Thursday seems to suit most of us.

I have been to two meetups, one at High Woods Country Park, and the other one at Adventureland Soft play area.

Some of the others are involved in different things, such as some of the very fit(??) ones are training for a race, they are training seperately, but keep each other motivated with threads on MN as you can see,now you have found us.

Some of them are making "scrapbooks" for their DC's meeting up on a Saturday night.

Think thats it really, but seems like quite alot compared to some groups I think.

Everyone is very friendly, the DC's range from 5 weeks(bet I've got that wrong Podglet!) to 12yrs,with the average ages being around 18mth-3yrs I'd guess.

Look forward to meeting you......

Saz126 · 14/06/2008 21:43

Welcome MummyLovesPrams! I have one DS, nearly 21 months and we live in Kelvedon. I am one of the "fit" members of the group - ha ha I wish! Hope to meet you soon.

MummyLovesPrams · 14/06/2008 21:48

Sorry - am probably being very thick....DC?? Does that mean Darling Children??

Sounds like a nice active bunch then ;)

I tried out netmums but haven't met anyone - maybe I smell

My DH works shifts so tend to have a lot of free time on my hands (well what spare time there is with an active toddler lol) so would be lovely to meet up with a nice group of girls & kiddies

I did go to a P&T group locally but they were so cliquey that I found it very hard to be 'accepted' IYKWIM?

I haven't been to the Adventureland soft play yet - heard it's fab though!

Been to Go Bananas & Rascals

Xx

OP posts:
Sawyer64 · 14/06/2008 21:57

Yes DC's is Darling children.

Yes they are a nice bunch too.

I have only been to Adventureland twice, but i think its better than Go Bananas, aimed more at younger ones, much cleaner, and the food is better too.

Don't know anything about Rascals though.

Yes alot of P&T groups seem that way to me too, individuals are nice, but its hard to "break in" though.

Saz126 · 14/06/2008 21:59

Yes, DC's is Darling Children. I know what you mean, some P&T groups very cliquey - I've found that too. This MN group is not at all - everyone very friendly and relaxed and you can just be yourself.

Adventureland is great, although not been to either Go Bananas or Rascals to compare.

Come along soon if you can, although probably easier if we come to you whilst you are with bump! DS would love to come to Frinton, the only time we've been there was when the tide was in. Stoopid Mummy didn't realise that you had to look at the tide times - although he was very happy just playing on the grass.

How many prams do you have? I have three pushchairs and DH says I'm not allowed anymore....boo..!

Mung · 15/06/2008 09:53

Hi. Welcome. Its always great to have new faces join in. I am sure there was a thread a while back from someone asking about other Mums in Frinton...have a look through the threads in the Local section.
Sophierosie keeps talking about a day at the seaside, so we could all head out your way soon.
IKWYM about toddler groups. I have got really fed up of my local one and the 'gangs' of Mums. I just see it as an insight into the playground politics.

I hope we get to meet up soon. Can you get to Colchester easily enough?

MummyLovesPrams · 15/06/2008 10:32

Oooo it would be lovely if we could do a meet this end....the bump is slowing me down some what lol!!

Been so poorly with this PG!

Frinton beach is so lovely & clean

I stopped going to the local P&T group - I felt really bad as Ava loved it but I had been going for 5 months & still only one mum would talk to me - I tried to 'fit in' but they just didn't want to know - in the end I was dreading going so decided to stop going!

Sawyer I am down to 2 prams now.....just lol! I sold my Pliko P3 on Friay, I have had roughly 18 since Ava was born PMSL!

I now have my Quinny Buzz which I also have the Dreami for, for Little Man & my Phil & Teds which arrived on Monday - have been busy buying all the matching accessories ever since PMSL!

Mung - Yup I can get the Colchester really easily (well the main part) the train station is literally at the end of our road, the trains run at the bottom of our garden - so I just hop on the train!!

Would be slightly harder to get the more edge of town places but am I right in thinking that Adventure land is near North Station??

Hi Mummylovesprams!

I think I have the youngest DC at the moment. DD is 2 months today (nearly right Sawyer!)

I LOVE Frinton! Ny grandparents used to have a beach hut there when we were little. A day at the seaside sounds fab.

By the way, I'm Jen, DP is Peter and we have DS (19months) and DD (2 months)

Adventureland is right next to the main Station in Colchester. I have only been a couple of times but DS loved it (eventually) last time

Hope to meet you soon.

Mung · 15/06/2008 21:24

at your pram fetish. I have finally given in and bought a good old maclaren this week, as the one I had for both DCs is slowly dying. I should have quizzed you on what to buy first by the sounds of things you know your stuff!

I thought there were only old people in Frinton, so its great that there is a toddler group .

Hope all you girls didn't get too tired running about helping children do father's day things. Its a nightmare as I ran around for DC a bit and then we had to visit Dhs Dad and my Dad...I have eaten way too much.

MummyLovesPrams · 15/06/2008 21:51

Hi Pod,

I have to admit I love Frinton - it is a little quaint & a tad stuck in the dark ages but I love it he hee!!

I love the tea rooms - I know that's a bit sad but I often take Ava up there to see the fish & look at the plants & have a slice of cake & a cuppa

PMSL Mung - it's fair to say there are very few makes of pram I haven't tried lol! I'm an avid member of a prams board & we're all mega pramaolics!!

Maclarens are a top make so you'll get good use out of it ;)

Sounds like a hectic day - was the food good though ;)

OP posts:
Saz126 · 15/06/2008 21:53

You are a Pramaholic MLP! I really want a Maclaren Mung, any good? Which Maclaren is best MummyLovesPrams? I am bored with my current three and thinking of selling my Loola.
Will have to sell one before I am allowed to buy another. I don't even like buying shoes that much, think I should be allowed at least one addiction!

Sawyer64 · 15/06/2008 22:02

I can relate to the Pramaholics bit,not that I've "indulged" myself quite to the extent you have MLP! But I have 2 single buggies and a double.I would love to get rid of my 2 singles, and get a Maclaren one,was watching one on E Bay that cost £159 new and went for £46!
My Mothercare buggy just reclines slightly, and the Hauck one I bought second hand reclines fully, but is bulky, and the wheels get "stuck".

DD2 still needs her 2 hour nap,and that gets awkward when you are on the beach all day,as she wont lay down. But sleeps well in the buggy if she's lying flat, and Mummy pushes it to get her to go off initially!

Although its nice to start off with bigger prams and carrycots etc.We all tend to switch to an easily foldable one thats lightweight eventually.
The Maclaren, seems to me to be ideal right from Birth and still great when you have a Toddler.

MummyLovesPrams · 15/06/2008 22:08

I am indeed - DH has got used to prams turning up at the house PMSL!

I usually always sell one to fund another though - have picked up a few at bootsales & sold them on for good money ;)

I would probably go for a Maclaren XLR as I think it's the best.

But if that's to 'spensive then the Triumph is good too.

They have good prices here

Ebay is always good for prams too!

OP posts:
Saz126 · 15/06/2008 22:16

Great, thanks MLP. I will try to persuade DH on the XLR. Am off to get some zeds now, work tomorrow....but holiday on Friday, yippee!

MummyLovesPrams · 15/06/2008 22:31

Anytime

Twinkie1 · 16/06/2008 12:20

Hi Love.

Am Twinkie - have 2 kids - DS is 3.5 and DD is nearly 8.

We live in Kelvedon with DH who works in London.

I work but have asked for redundancy today and am awaiting the nod as to when I can go!

Hopefully will be able to have a meet up in Frinton soon - although can you make sure none of those weird people from the TV programme are about - they all looked barking mad!

Nice to have someone new to meet though.

Tx

MummyLovesPrams · 16/06/2008 12:45

LOL - there has been utter uproar about that programmme!!

Sadly they picked about the 4 nuttiest people to interview - it's not as bas as they made out I promise!!

The little old lady they interviewd who was standing on the corner of the road waiting for her sister is always out & about - I don't know her from Adam but she always sticks her head in Ava's pram & says what a lovely little chap he is - I've given up correcting her - even though Ava is always dressed from head to toe in pink!

Hope you get a good result re your redudnacy I got made redundant when I was on Maternity leave with Ava but worked out in our favour as I wasn't planning on going back anyway lol!

Hello MLP,

Im a sahm, I've got two DDs, nearly 3 and 14 months, and would love a day out at the seaside too!

As we're doing a pramaholic anonymous session ;-), I've only got one, a phil'n'teds ... please don't get me started ...

Twinkie, are you bored of the rest of us?! .

SP xx

MummyLovesPrams · 16/06/2008 15:36

Hiya SP

I have just bought a P&T & am rather in love with it PMSL - been snapping up every possible accessory - oh so sad but oh so true PMSL!

Can't wait to meet you all - a day out at the seaside with lots of new faces & kiddies sounds like a fab day out to me!!

XxXx

OP posts:
SparklyPrincess · 16/06/2008 16:57

I bought all the accessories ... and had them replaced, and bought a new wheel.

I gave my old buggy away and I'm basically hoping that the P&T lasts long enough for DD2 to be able to walk everywhere!
