Tarvin, Cheshire

DH, DS and I are moving to Cheshire this summer and looking at Tarvin as a possible location. Can anyone who knows it give us a sense of what it's like? We're in London currently but not from here originally and happy to be somewhere much less urban than we are now!

I’m interested in boring stuff like the best local supermarkets, as well as the general vibe/how welcoming the village is likely to be. Thanks in advance for any advice!

It's a lovely village quite close to Chester, I used to live in Kelsall, there's not many main amenties around and the traffic is abysmal but your probably used to that living in London.

I dont live in Tarvin but go through on my way to work. Id see it as heavy traffic on that main thru road. Might be ok further back from that

Hope you don't mind me messaging, although not from Tarvin but my parents live near Tattenhall. There is not much there in Tarvin just a small village, but driving distance to Chester where there lots of things to do with family or shopping ect....then there is also delamere where you can do lots of walking or cycling ect...and also not far from delamere is Blakemore village with small shops and things to do with the family and also your not to far from bolesworth estate and also Cheshire ice cream farm wich has things to do with families.

I know Tarvin well. It's a mid-sized village in the middle of the Cheshire countryside. Population is about 3,000 people. It's surrounded by countryside in all directions and Delamere forest is only a few minutes drive away. It's what you would probably describe as very middle class Cheshire. Conservation area, three pubs, several restaurants, art gallery, craft shops and a post office. Whilst I'm not saying everyone is rich, it's definitely not a ghetto.

It is about 20 mins by car or bus from Chester, 45mins from Liverpool and Warrington and about an hour from Manchester. People have mentioned traffic but that is mostly confined to the bypass and compared to London you won't consider it to be heavy at all.

The only supermarket is a small Co-Op. Nearest big one is Sainsburys on the outskirts of Chester, but there are local shops in the village.

Thank you so much! I'd be commuting to south Chester (near the Holiday Inn on the A483) - is that likely to be horrific at say 7.45am and 4.30pm?

I wouldn't say so. There will be a bit of a queue on the A51 as you approach the Chester bypass but I would reckon at that time of the day it would take you 20 - 25mins.

Thanks @Aaron95

It's a lovely village. Like the PP I grew up in Kelsall which seems to have more of a heart. Spent most of my childhood in Tarvin though. Some good pubs and Gunnery's is a great restaurant. Schools are good.
I used to work on Chester Business Park which will be where or near where you are working. Traffic can be dreadful but you will find the hours that get you there and back without much.
