Hi All,
We’re currently scouting out some good areas around Edinburgh to relocate to from England (Cambridge.) We plan to buy a house instead of first renting - finding ourselves in a bit of urgency… After much deliberation and a great deal of checking various areas on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation, South Queensferry is popping up as a nice area that ticks the boxes (close to the city but not in it- I prefer quieter areas; no stark divide between rich and poor such as other areas that we love otherwise such as Stirling, etc.)
Polmont also seems fine and house prices are reasonable… But there’s the juvenile detention centre in Brightons which is next door to Polmont… Is this a big negative, please? How do the locals view the detention centre?
We’re traveling to Scotland in a few days to explore both areas better and do some house viewings.
We don’t have children yet but planning to have a baby later in the year (hence the urgency) so obviously we want an area with good schooling (although things may look different in a couple of years by the time we need the school…)
For now, could I please ask for some general comments and insight?
Btw, for those who may wonder, we’re flexible on the location thanks to our jobs (initially were keen on Stirling) but my husband wants to be closer to Edinburgh… Also, I know Linlithgow has a great reputation but not many properties there within budget so we’d appreciate input on the above two locations. As I said, both areas rank well on the index overall and there’s no pronounced divide which is of great appeal.
Many thanks in advance!
