Moving to Frome?

We have just sold our house in Bristol. We made a fair amount of money on it and have been trying to decide what to do next. We work between Bristol and London but my husband is sure he won't back to London and so the West Country is going to be our perm home.
Frome has come up in some conversations about area. To me, the schools don't seem very good and - as a native Londoner - it seems a bit small and lacking in diversity as a place to bring up children. The market is nice but that isn't really enough to build a whole life of! That said, we'd be able to buy something pretty amazing in Frome, compared to what we could get for then budget in Bristol.
So, I guess my question is - is my view of Frome correct? Difficult to know when you're an outsider. I don't want to live in a village - a town is pushing it as is! We aren't interested in Bath, as that is equivalent to Bristol really, where we know people and may as well stay...
Any thoughts on what it is like now would be useful; I've read other threads about escaping as a teen 20 years ago and obviously it's different now!
Thanks

The population of Bath is only a fifth of Bristol and its a lot more compact.
That said, I'm in Keynsham which means I have both Bristol and Bath on my doorstep. 1 minutes to them by train and 20 minutes by bus. There's also direct trains to London and a bus service to the airport.

People are often split on Frome, and either love or hate it. DH grew up there and we have a flat there so go quite a bit. It has a nice arty vibe with lots of independent shops and cafes. House prices have gone up a lot in recent years.

As a(nother) Londoner, I would agree about the lack of diversity and that it’s small. Last time we were there we bumped into DH’s aunty and 2 different friends in one trip to the park. For me, I feel like there isn’t much for older children (teens) to do, and it’s too small. There are lots of Londoners moving there post covid (and wfh being more common), and it feels like there is a real divide between locals and newbies to me.

If you ever want a house here, I have one modern and one victorian detached houses sitting next door to each other in a central location. All as a result of sales collapsing with Liz Truss
