Cambridgeshire with a max budget of 250,000

Hi all,
We really miss Cambridge and are planning to move back with our two kids in the near future. Unfortunately, we are priced out of the city. We will be mainly working from home and going into Cambridge 1-2 times per week. Our budget is 250,000 and we are looking for 2 bedrooms (but we could also make it work with one) and a small outside space.
I have been looking online and found a few potential houses in Ely, St Neots and Linton. Of these places I have only been to Ely. Are there any other towns you can recommend? We are looking for a nice community.
Thanks so much,
Rosie

Stuff does still comes up in Central Cambridge for your budget. It is usually the 70s link attached type houses, but they are quite practical and can be made quite stylish or terraces that need a lot of work.

Cherry Hinton and Arbury are quite central and a bit cheaper.

Histon, impington, Oakington, Milton Cottenham all commutable and a bit more affordable.

On the other side Sawston might work.

Further afield, Ely and Saffron Walden also an easy train ride away and gorgeous.

Cambourne or Bar Hill?
Agree Sawston worth a look.

Baaaaaa, where are you finding these houses? In most of those places, that budget means a park home, one-bed flat or major renovation needed.

Ely, Cambourne and Bar Hill are a bit more affordable.

Ely is nice. It's expanded a lot, and being that bit bigger has more things on hand - useful as the kids get older. I don't really know Linton/St Neot's.

I don't think 1 bedroom places are really going to be workable with two kids and working from home...

St Neots is just a really ordinary ordinary town. The commute to Cambridge is only OK if the traffic is OK and it regularly isn't...

St Ives? It has lots of independent shops and a pretty river area. My friend likes it. The guided bus way goes into Cambridge from there.

Linton is pretty nice. Do you need primary or secondary schools? It has both.

Or if you like planes, there's one here in Duxford opposite the Air Museum:

But it depends what you miss about Cambridge. Being tantalisingly nearby but at the mercy of traffic jams and public transport might be frustrating.

Of those mentioned Ely would be the nicest area. It has the bonus of a train line to get you into Cambridge.
