Looking for a diverse Area to move to in Hertfordshire or Cambridgeshire

Hi Mums,

I'm looking to move out of London to Cambridgeshire or Hertfordshire ways. My main worry is diversity, I have 2 kids and I would hate for them to be bullied because they look different based off the color of their skin. It would be nice to see a few people that looked like them. I know its such an uncomfortable topic but as a mum its what i need to think about before just picking up and moving especially when we currently live in North London. I would really appreciate your true thoughts about diversity in these area and where you would recommend the most. Thank you so much

Honestly? Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire are not the most diverse of places.

North London/surrounding is probably the most diverse.

After that look for bigger towns and cities. Although that might not achieve what you want if what you’re after is rural living.

@AppleKatie Thank you. I am definitely after rural living so its a bit of a difficult one. Also those areas are the places i can afford! London isn't a place where I want to continue to raise kids, they are so well behaved I need to get them away before they get brainwashed. I'm not necessarily looking for a place that only has a certain demographic of people, but seeing 1 or 2 would be nice. Even if there was a just a few in the whole school I wouldn't mind also.

People say that Cambridge isn’t diverse, but I don’t agree. No, it’s never going to be as diverse as a big city, but the university and biomedical campus bring a really wide variety of nationalities to the city. The further you get away from the city and its commuter villages, the less diverse it will be, so it’ll depend on what you’re looking for (or can afford!).

It’s an amazing place to live and grow up!

What about Peterborough? It’s very diverse.

I don’t have the data to back this up but my impression is that Herts is better for this than cambs. Think ahead to secondary school age, will they travel into a town for that (from lovely rural village), those will generally be more diverse.
