Thinking of moving to the area. We have a 2yr old and thinking of having another. Is it a good family area with lots to do? My 2yr old is very active and currently spends most of his time at the park it's not a retirement place is it? Also need recommendations on good nurseries I work 2 days a week and would want to carry on with it. Thanks everyone x

Hi, I'm from Westcliff originally but haven't lived there for 20 years. My husband's from Hackney. I'm looking at moving to Leigh because I think my husband would feel more at home (with all the gentrification!). Does anyone know any pockets of Leigh near the Broadway that are still reasonably priced, please?

fiorentina99 · 09/12/2011 15:34

Hello! I'm another person who's moved to Leigh. Lived in London for around 15 years but have moved back to Leigh. I've got a two year old (now in nursery a couple of days a week at Elm Road), and am expecting number two. I've been looking for an NCT group here (as my last one in London was brilliant) but the Southend one seems to have closed down? I'll try the Highlands Church toddler group on Mondays as I'm definitely up for meeting up with other mums. If anyone would like to get in touch please do as I'd love to hear from other mums! :)

Hello Fiorentina!
I'm in Southend - moved here just over two years ago 3 weeks before my son was born. I now also have a five week old daughter. I'd love to meet some other people with small children in the area - we moved here with no contacts locally and still have very few!

Hiya, thought I'd give a reply! I'm a new mum in Leigh ( had a little boy nearly 6 months ago) I remember being pregnant and found it hard to socialise before the baby came along. So hope to hear back from you soon!

Hi there

I see this thread was still active in June so thought that I would try and get involved. I am moving to LOS in September from London and will no absolutley no one!

I have two children (Charlie who is 3 and Jacob who is 1). I wonder if anyone can recommend any nice pre schools? I will be living in Chalkwell but happy to take him further. Also looking for nice playgroups etc for them both. Figured it would be a nice way to meet some people too.

Thanks

Claire

Hello mums! Leigh on Sea is a great area to live in. Leigh Broadway is full of great bars, restaurants and shops. Gregory Dean is the name of the hair salon that we own here. Every woman's biggest dilemma when relocating, "who will do my hair!!!" Gregory Dean would love to welcome you to the area so please do get in touch if you are looking for a new hair stylist.

Hello ladies, we moved to Leigh in August and I'd love to meet other mums. I'm v proud mum to Esme (3) and Tom (nearly 2) and am very newly pregnant again! I'm working part time but would love to go to groups / meet up with other mums on my days off, and even more so as soon as I'm on maternity leave. please reply if you fancy meeting up 😃

beautybyamanda · 27/11/2012 12:12

I found Georgie Porgie nursery very good. I believe sandcastles is good too but it depends on what end of Leigh you want really. They are North Leigh and Hadleigh near to the Highlands Estate. They are switching on the Christmas lights this Friday in Leigh and there is a sort of carnival and lots to enjoy if you don't know already!

BumpsBoutique1 · 06/12/2012 11:42

Hello ladies

I moved to Leigh a couple of years ago, and had my daughter in June 2011, there are lots of places to go and things to do. Darlinghurst Nursery has free sessions for baby massage etc, also my daughter loved Jo Jingles which you can find their sessions on the web, I also take her to a little singing and dancing group on Tuesday mornings (above the Cedar Tree shop on the Broadway), you don't need to book, just turn up and pay £4 for about 45 minutes. She absolutely loves it, I definitely recommend that. Also the new Soft Play Fun Factory at Rochford is great for kids of all ages, babies also as they have a special baby sensory area and the prices are reasonable too

My daughter was at Leigh Village Nursery and they were amazing with her, she is with a childminder now but they still invite her to special ocassions such as Halloween and Christmas parties

BumpsBoutique1 · 06/12/2012 11:46

Hello again

On another note, for all you lovely expectant mums, Bumps Boutique is a maternity clothing shop opening in January on Broadway West, where you can find something for every ocassion, be it work, evening, casual etc. Look out for our special opening promotion coming soon and we hope you will pop by and say hello

Hi ladies. I moved to Leigh Broadway 3 years ago and now have an amazing 5 month old daughter. I had always worked and so it's not till I started my mat leave that I really got a chance to get to know Leigh. We go to a great baby & toddler group on a Thursday morning at Elem hall along Glendale gardens (9-11:30) but am now looking for more groups, activities etc to do. I met a fab bunch of ladies through NCT and we try and meet up for coffee/lunch once a week and iv found it a life saver. So if any ladies fancy meeting for a coffee any time or to do anything with the littlens any the littlens anytime then please give me a shout. :-)

Effie77 · 25/01/2013 20:21

Hi ladies. I'm hopefully moving chalkwell in the coming weeks (assuming our sale closes, eek!). I have registered my daughter in imperial nursery which I thought was really good. However it's very hard to find any reviews and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts? Leigh village doesn't stay open til seven and small friends is from 22 months!!!! Also, would be open to a childminder in due course. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm super excited about moving as I love Leigh and all that it has to offer, especially for young families !!!

Higgywiggy · 20/06/2013 12:50

Hello - thought I'd jump on and see if people in this post are still around. Is there an online forum for Leigh-on-Sea at all with lots of things, not just mummy things, listed, I wonder?
My husband and I are looking at houses in Leigh at the moment and will be making the move from London (which it sounds like a few of you above have done too - is this what they mean by 'hipsturbia' - ha?!) As I'm unsure whether we'll have moved or not by the time bubs comes I shan't be doing NCT classes anywhere, so am hoping during my maternity leave (hopefully the full year) I'll be able to get involved in stuff going on in the area to meet local mamas!

What areas would anyone recommend in southend on sea?

Regards Danny

bexx88 · 21/07/2013 16:15

Hello!

We are thinking of moving to Leigh-on-sea and we'd be grateful for some thoughts. What is it like living there? For us, it is important that it is a good place for small children, rather calm and peaceful, good schools, nature/beach/woods, public transport and affordable housing. Also, are there any health food shops?

Thanks a lot for your comments!

Back2leigh · 29/08/2013 22:46

Hi,
I've read the whole thread and, seems the are quite a few people who are moving to Leigh from other parts of the country. I too have moved back here from London and love the change the broadway has taken, so on and so forth.
However, i too am looking for toddler activities. I discovered quackery, which is a musical sing and dance group , takes plavce at the Leigh community centre every Monday (I think) Thursday (for sure) its £4 per class and kids enjoy it!
Other than that I'm quite clueless :(
Any suggestions welcome
Thanks

Back2leigh · 29/08/2013 22:54

Hi karenjt
Just realised your post was from a year back- but I've just moved back to Leigh and have a son born in June 2012- nearly he same time as you've stated yours!
If you aren't back at work and still have some spare time, it would be great to exchange notes on activities for kids
Thanks!
