Villages around Haywards Heath

Hi,

We are looking to move out of SW London with our three older teenagers. As they are not at 'school gate' stage we are looking for a village with a good sense of community so there is some chance of us meeting new people! In my head i'm hoping to find a lovely larger cottage in/outskirts of a pretty village - i have hopes of finding a chocolate box cottage and village!! Can anyone recommend any that might work? I really would love there to be lots of village things going on and a good pub and coffee shop/cafe. Husband is commuting to London via HH. We arent really restricted by schools so can pretty much pick anywhere. Ive considered Cuckfield but not sure if they have any chocolate box cottages with beams etc. Ive also looked at Lindfield but think thats a bit too big for us? I honestly have no idea really so am hoping for any advice. So very grateful! Thank you.

A good friend of mine lives in Lindfield. It seems a super village, great community, lots to do, lovely pubs, local shops. walking distance to HH (train shops etc). She has young adults but they have been there some time - so it does seem to cater for all ages. I am quite envious - my village - different county - has very little to offer young people and children.

Bolney maybe? Cowfold?

Lindfield is lovely and you can walk to HH station but it's essentially a suburb of HH if you see what I mean. If you don't mind driving to a station there are loads of lovely places. Newick, Ditchling, Barcombe, Chailey, Hurstpierpoint, Hassocks...

Piltdown, Fletching, Nutley, Sheffield Park

Thank you so much. He doesnt mind driving to a station as long as it doesnt take more than 10-15 mins. I'll have a look at all your suggestions. Which would be your top 3 in terms of prettiness, old period large cottages or farmhouses? As were selling a SW London property that has gone up in value we are very fortunate to have an ok amount to spend. You didn't mention Cuckfield. Was there a reason why not or just that I mentioned it myself? What do you think of it? Thank you again so much. I'm super grateful.

Thats really interesting. Thank you. I just wasnt sure if because its so big now that unless you buy a property right in the centre then the rest of the houses are all quite built up. We are looking for a more rural feel i think hence why i think we need to go smaller.

Not sure if that was responding to me but I'd say Newick, Ditchling and Barcombe all have some very lovely old houses. Ditchling and Newick a little bigger than Barcombe with more than one pub/shop/etc and probably slightly more going on. The whole area between Lewes, Uckfield and HH is really lovely, with the Downs to the South, beyond that the sea, and Ashdown Forest to the North. Lots of pretty villages and countryside.

Oh I just don't know Cuckfield really. More familiar with the other side of HH.
