Hi,
we are moving to the Surbiton area from out of area and wondering if anyone has any experience of King Charles road as a road to live on? Also what the estate opposite it is like? We would have to walk through it to the station so ideally would like it to be safe. Is it looked upon as one of the less nice roads? This isn't meant offensively btw, just trying to get more info on the area as we will be new to these parts and don't know it well.

Also does anyone have any experience of the infant / junior schools nearby? Looks like lime tree is 'required improvement' ofsted, and then there are two C of E primaries rated 'good' but we are atheist so not sure how we feel about them - depends how religious they are I suppose.

Lastly any experience of any of the nurseries or boys preps in the area? Our little boy is 2 currently. Thanks so much!

@SazzieM welcome to Surbo!! Hopefully you’ll love living here. King Charles road is a nice road, nice mix of housing stock and I don’t think anyone would think of it as a “less nice” road (but then I’ve never really heard anyone talking this way about any road here
tbh). The estate is perfectly safe, full of families and if you walk though you will see it’s nicely kept and people there have pride in their surroundings.

School wise I agree Lime Tree hasn’t got the best reputation and the location has always seemed odd to me. There’s a new primary free school opening in Sept next year actually on King Charles road so
you will certainly be in catchment there. On a quiet year you may also be able to get into Grand avenue school.

Pretty much all the boys I know who go to a prep go to the boys prep at Surbiton High then on at 11 to wherever - Hampton, Reeds, sometimes Tiffin, Claremont etc. There’s also Shrewsbury House but that’s a bit more traditional, through to 13 and they do not support boys leaving at 11. Of the two families I know who had boys go through there they both went off to one of the big famous boarding schools.

Do have a look at the state secondary options, incredible options for girls but boys not so much. Hollyfield is your closest but it’s very Marmite.

Nursery wise you are very close to Surbiton Childrens Centre nursery which is incredible but not sure how many hours they offer 2 year olds. There’s also aspire near you which a friend was very happy with.

good luck with the move
