Hello,

My husband and two daughters will be moving to Edinburgh in the spring from the States. We are excited but a little nervous! I have so many questions. First, I was wondering if anyone could recommend family friendly neighborhoods to live in? Also primary schools? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Elizabeth

Hi there,
Edinburgh is a fab place to live. It's a fairly small city though, so lots of things are within reach of lots of different neighbourhoods, and in most areas there are good schools around (but i'm biased being married to a teacher and being the daughter of teachers who all work locally ).

Can maybe give more specific advice with more info: are you looking to rent or buy? (your price range will also definitely affect what part of the city you can live in); would you prefer to live in a house or appartment?; what kind of things would you like to be very close to e.g. supermarket, local shops, park, coffee shop (my necessity ); do you want to live in the city or outside but commutable?

Let us know your requirements and we'll see what we can do to help!

We just picked up the Edinburgh Childcare and School Guide which you would probably find useful. Does MN allow email addresses in posts? [email protected]

There's a thread to help Lissie find somewhere here - you might find it useful..

Oops, have just realised that Elizabeth's post was a while ago, oh well, if she looks again hopefully the info about the school guide and Lissie's link will be helpful.
