Sixth Form Enrollment Process

We are relocating to the UK in June after our eldest finishes his GCSEs and he will start Sixth Form in September. Please can someone outline the process of how things work on 25 August, Results day (do we arrange for his current school to email his results to us?) and then what happens on Enrollment day (is that the same day)?

We have applied to a few Sixth Forms and received two conditional offers so far which we’ve accepted. I am not clear on how we proceed on or after results day, ie once my son has his results will he be invited to all of the Sixth forms he’s accepted offers from, to enroll? If we go to our first choice and places are full, do we rush off to our second choice?

Please detail how it works?
Many thanks

Different schools have different processes. Last couple of years probably not typical but I think generally you just need to email the results to the school. Greycourt required this on results day, others were more relaxed. Waldegrave required your child to go in in person. Inconveniently on same day as Reading Festival started…

If the sixth forms are oversubscribed then on enrollment day they will need to use their oversubscription criteria, which you can find in the admissions criteria on their website. They will give your son a timed appointment to enroll (either by phone or in person). If your son's chosen courses fill up before his appointment time they may offer him a different course as an alternative. Or, if they fill up completely they may contact you to cancel the enrollment appointment (this can lead to lots of disappointment). Schools in Richmond Borough that are most likely to be oversubscribed are Waldegrave, Orleans Park and Grey Court, so it is worth having other options on your list.

Each school is different - some will expect you to bring all your documentation (results and identity docs) to the appointment, whereas others will be happy for you to email them.

Is this for a dedicated sixth form college or sixth forms attached to schools?

I assumed it meant school sixth forms. A lot of people don't realise they often make more offers than there are places available. They need to, because like the op, so many applicants hold more than one offer, so there are a lot of no-shows on enrolment day
