Brindley Place to NEC - how long?

Pikaso · 10/01/2022 08:29

How long would it to take to drive from Hilton garden inn (Brindley Place) to NEC at 8am on a Thursday morning?

Google maps could help?

Pikaso · 10/01/2022 09:50

Google maps doesn’t allow for rush hour traffic

Yes it does - you can put a time in that you're leaving and it will work it out. I'd allow 30mins - the NEC is off the M42 rather than in Birmingham which is where Brindley Place is.

TheGonnagle · 10/01/2022 09:54

Quite a while. You either have to use the A45, which is currently being dug up and the traffic is horrendous, or the Aston Expressway/M6, which might be fine but probably won’t be. Allow an hour.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/01/2022 09:55

I'd walk over to New Street and get a train to the airport. I wouldn't be attempting city centre traffic at that time.

Damia · 10/01/2022 09:56

I live about 10 mins from nec, used to take me around 45 mins to commute in to city center by car when I worked there, so I'd estimate that

girlmom21 · 10/01/2022 09:58

About half an hour - easier to get the train.

Worldgonecrazy · 10/01/2022 10:08

You will be going against commuter traffic, so that is in your favour. I would go to A38M, and then join M6. You will still hit traffic but most of it will be going the other way.

If it is a big exhibition allow time for parking and walk to the halls from the car park, which could add another 20 or 30 minutes to your journey.

Train is definitely easier, 15 minute walk to New Street station, 10 minute train hour, 15 minute walk other end.

Aurorie11 · 10/01/2022 10:12

How long is a piece of string?
If traffic is ok, straight down the Aston Express Way jump on M6 and then M42, should be well under 30 minutes but who can tell with Birmingham traffic?
As other have said would be easier to walk to New St Station and jump on fast train, well under 30 minutes in total
Also don't forget if you are driving to Brindley Place to check if you have to pay the clean air charge

MadisonAvenue · 10/01/2022 10:21

I agree with others that the train would be much easier, traffic is so unpredictable. Birmingham International is right in the NEC complex, and trains are frequent.

Pikaso · 10/01/2022 10:37

Train line is saying the Journfy from nee street to Birmingham international is only 12 minutes!!? Is this right?

OP posts:
Ozanj · 10/01/2022 10:43

It takes 30-45mins at that time. If you can set out a bit later (after 8:30) it will be easier as you will miss the school traffic that occurs enroute. Alternatively take the train to Birmingham International and back it will probably be a lot easier especially with parking.

Yes - 10 min walk to station at most too. Use the train for sure!
ninecoronas · 10/01/2022 10:46

yep, v short train journey from New Street to International. I'd leave an hour all in if driving at that time

girlmom21 · 10/01/2022 10:48

Yeah I think it's one stop. Then you walk out of the train station straight into the NEC.
Worldgonecrazy · 10/01/2022 11:11

Inter city trains are one stop (make sure your train is scheduled to stop at Birmingham International - there used to be a Birmingham to London morning train that went straight to London without stopping, and invariably someone would end up in Euston rather than the NEC.

There is a slower regional train that takes about 20 minutes.

ReviewingTheSituation · 10/01/2022 11:18

Yes - the train really is that quick - and the station dumps you right in the NEC. Faffing around with parking can be a nightmare (and the parking charge at NEC is likely to be the same as the train fare).

Yes, if you got a direct train.
HumunaHey · 10/01/2022 11:22

Don't forget the CAZ charge too. If the train means you avoid driving in/out of town at all thatday, you'll save an £8 CAZ charge.

Danikm151 · 10/01/2022 11:26

Train is 20 mins on the longer route- stops at Adderley, stechford and marston green along the way. Other one skips those stops

I’ve just looked on Trainline and a return ticket ranges from £4.30 to £5.40, the cheapest parking at the NEC is £12 if prebooked.

Some journeys are as quick at 9 minutes according to Trainline.

Good luck with that one in rush hour traffic in Birmingham at the moment!
Comefromaway · 10/01/2022 11:32

And going against commuter traffic isn't relevant when there is a big event on at the NEC (I used to work there)
