So what’s driving your decision? Do you have friends, family, a new job in the city? It’s a great place - but you must surely have some criteria?

TooWicked · 28/11/2021 18:21

What’s your budget? Is the move to be close to work? Do you need to be near a train station/close to the city?

Hungry675tf · 28/11/2021 18:25

Are you willing to attend church AT LEAST every other weekend for the two years prior to secondary school to ensure your DC gets into a bog standard comp? Because if not don't even bother. If you can't prove your godliness (or your child is a genius and gets into a super selective grammar) then you are essentially relegating your options for secondary schools to failing sink schools.

Liverpool has the tightest secondary criteria in the country for school admissions, and most secondaries are religious. Outdated sectarianism at its best.

We moved.

Would you consider Wirral?

We're just looking for a fresh start, I've got people I know in Liverpool yes(but they don't have kids) so asking them isn't really an option. My partners a bricklayer and I'm a hairdresser so hoping we'll be able to find work easy enough.

Hoping to pay no more then 700 pm for rent as we'd like to be able to save to buy our own house, I don't even no where to start with regards to anything, I'm a hairdresser and he's a bricklayer so where hoping it'll be easy enough for finding work.

If it's a good place to live with decent schools and job opportunities or not having to travel far to get to Liverpool then yes I would consider it.

Yes if I had to do that to get him into a decent school, then yes we would I already go to church sometimes so that's not a problem either.

Quite. it's a bit random, isn't it?

And a budget for rent/buying?

Tillymintpolo · 28/11/2021 18:55

Look at Southport

bluetowers · 28/11/2021 18:56

Is look south side over north. Look at what your budget gets you in different areas.

Lynseylou1 · 28/11/2021 19:06

For £700 a month rent you would struggle to get a decent house in one of the nicer areas in Liverpool to be honest. You would probably be better off looking on the outskirts of the city, parts of wirral are lovely and just through the Mersey tunnel for work if your wanting to work in the city.

Hungry675tf · 28/11/2021 19:27

You're not gonna get anything nice southside for £700 pcm. Not for a two bed flat. Nicer bits of Toxteth maybe. You could look at Toxteth, Garston, Gatacre. Not Speke.

If you up your budget a few hundred a month then Aigburth, Mossley Hill, Allerton

jelly79 · 28/11/2021 19:32

South Liverpool is lovely but more expensive and more competition for schools with less choice IMO. But you are close to the city, the beautiful parks and lots of little high streets

North Liverpool is cheaper, have a look at Ormskirk or Southport. 40 minute drive from the city centre. A lot more choice of schools and have their own town centres. Right on the train line in to the city centre

Everythingmagnolia · 28/11/2021 20:21

Because it's close to Liverpool with good transport links, schools and in my opinion is nicer than Liverpool despite the fact it is often cheaper to live there.

Everythingmagnolia · 28/11/2021 20:22

My reply was to @Warmduscher

NanFlanders · 28/11/2021 20:28

Aigburth is lovely. Great schools, some incredible parks, bohemian Lark Lane. Moved here 15 years ago, and it's fab.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 28/11/2021 20:28

40 minute drive Shock

Might as well live in Manchester. (Which, AFAIK, does have a fair few good schools.)Wink

loobylou198 · 28/11/2021 20:33

I live in crosby which is a lovely area but houses can be quiet expensive to rent. Maybe looking at more 800 a month for a 3 bed.

It's right by the beach, not far to go into town. I think it's a lovely area to live in and bring little ones up in!
