Moving to York

Hi, we are moving to York next year as I've got a new job and I was wondering if anyone could give me advice about where we should consider for living and primary schools (DD is in yr 2)

We will be renting, my workplace is right in the centre of the city and I would like somewhere family friendly, with a nurturing primary school not too far away.

We moved last year to south bank area, kids at scarcroft school- we’ve been so happy with area and school. Scarcroft seem to have quite a lot of movement and my two settled in so easily. Area is a bit pricey but lovely, near rowntree park, nice cafes and shops on bishy rd. Where will you be working?

KnittingNurse · 28/11/2021 22:55

Sorry you said working in centre, scarcroft actually v central

South Bank is where most in-comers seem to want to be. It has a very ‘London’ feel to it. Depends what you’re looking for really.

I live on Clifton green (15 mins walk to town centre) and its a lovely part of the city. Heworth is also very nice with great promary school and has little village feel to it.

What's your budget?

cliffdonville · 05/12/2021 06:57

I've just seen these replies, thank you!
It feels very overwhelming at the moment so good to hear that it's been successful for you @KnittingNurse
How did your children react to you telling them about the move?

@Shmithecat2 we will be renting at first, would like to pay less than £1400 pcm ideally and then when we are able to buy probably around £300k

City centre for £300k is asking a lot. You’d need more than that in the less-than-trendy area I live in for a 3-bed semi, the areas already mentioned would be more.

My eldest wasn’t happy when we told him but they both settled pretty easily as soon as we moved and they saw they could make new friends. Think it’s given them both some confidence overall.

Are you thinking actually within the city itself, or are you interested in the outlying villages/suburbs?
