Great opportunity here for all women - perfect if you’re a mum looking to work again or anyone who fancies a career change. Training which promises a job interview, and it’s free! But be quick, deadline is this week.
Women urged to apply for free digital training to get them into jobs
Women across the region have the opportunity to take part in free digital marketing training to get them straight into high-quality well-paid jobs in the sector.
Mums returning to work, women who lost jobs due to Covid or those wanting a career change are all invited to apply for the course which guarantees them an interview with local employers.
The Talent Skills Bootcamp, open to all women over 19 in Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire, Cumbria and Cheshire, by Fortune 100 digital skills training company BuzzStart Academy, aims to help close the gender gap in the digital and tech industries.
It’s completely free to those who take part after BuzzStart boss Patrick Cutliffe won government money to run training for women.
When he started BuzzStart he ran digital marketing training for Google and Facebook, training more than 10,000 apprentices and 50,000 businesses, SMEs and senior executives worldwide. But he decided to focus on training women after seeing that jobs in tech companies are dominated by men.
He successfully bid within a consortium for money from the government’s PlanforJobs initiative which is funding bootcamps to give digital skills to adults across the country.
The Talent test pilot ran in Manchester in January and got 35 women into digital specialism jobs, and now Patrick has expanded to take applications across the region for the next Talent bootcamp starting next month.
He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity and I urge women to get their applications in. You don’t need digital marketing experience.
“Years before the implications of Covid, I saw a widening digital skills gender gap and the need for training to address the barriers women face. So I set out on a mission to get more women into digital industry leadership and senior specialist roles.
“Talent has been a huge success with the first cohort securing well paid digital specialist jobs.
“We were highly commended by the Department for Education for inclusion and we’re delighted to expand the programme with Talent 2.0 so more women can benefit.”
The 12-week course includes training on being self-employed in digital growth strategy, so women can work around their lifestyle and family.
Learners will work remotely accessing online classes by an expert team of women who have trained and consulted for Facebook and Google and run their own successful digital companies, as well as women mentors from the test-pilot Talent course.
Talent will be Monday to Friday 9.30am-3.30pm but with flexibility to take account of childcare or other commitments. The first cohort had mums, night shifters, part-timers, self-employed and women affected by Covid.
The modules also include a focus on improving mental wellbeing and confidence, with a support community of women mentors and industry leaders.
Patrick said: “We developed the Talent course to build self-belief in the women we train which is so important.
“So as well as the technical we address employability skills, soft skills, confidence issues, imposter syndrome and tools required to win interviews and fast-track their careers .
“My years of research point to a future of work led by self-employed digital-savvy women, utilising their generalist and specialist skillsets in an efficient and flexible way that matches their lifestyle.”
The bootcamp is open to unemployed women in Greater Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire, Cumbria or Cheshire. Employed women can also apply but employers must match-fund the cost.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday, September 1 at 5pm. The course starts on Monday, September 20.
