Help! Advice from Bristol Mums of teens

A young relative (young 17) is moving from oop North to Bristol for uni. They are upset at being allocated Stoke Bishop basic room in halls instead of city centre. Parents freaking out a bit about how they’ll cope despite kid seeming to me sensible and used to Northern city life.

Any tips from locals about (1) areas to avoid / general safety and (2) safe taxi firms etc?.Uber not a feature where currently lives and more used to ultra safe council licensed black cabs.

I work at Bristol Uni and can assure your relatives that Stoke Bishop is far safer than the city centre. Halls there are owned and run by the Uni and whilst no longer as well staffed as they used to be, are far better run than the partnership properties in the city centre which are anarchical and where my students are least happy. As long as the young person doesn't walk across the Downs alone at night they will be fine. It is safe walking round the halls on the estate, they're close to the sports fields, there is a dedicated bus service that runs until 4 in the morning. I don't know what the person will not be able to cope with unless they are very fragile indeed.

They’ll have Uber in Bristol, it’s super easy to use and will make transport easy. They can book a cab when they want it, see the Reg, make and model of car, name of driver and their picture.
