Moving to herts from Enfield

This is my first time posting..

My husband and I have lived our whole lives in London, we now have 2 children (2.5 and 10 months) and we are done with living here and have decided we don’t really want to bring up our children where we live. We have totally been priced out and can’t get anything bigger or move areas (north London) and get much more for our money.

We want to stay north (Hertfordshire mainly) but we aren’t great with areas. We also cant move until the January before my eldest would start school which would mean missing the schools deadline.

Does anyone have any advice on how best to approach all of this? Moving earlier isn’t an option atm. What areas could we be looking at? Current idea is bishops stortford…but we are open to places as we don’t know many areas. Our budget would be around 650k…

Has anyone had experience of moving past the cut off January date in Hertfordshire?

Thanks so much!

we moved from Finchley to Knebworth in December with our two small children and it’s been great. I’d definitely recommend it!

Great for the children and such a lovely way of life. I’m also a Londoner and Had been worried I’d hate it and miss city life but not one bit!

Also re the school stuff you might be able to enrol late because the schools aren’t as jam packed outside London I’ve found them more flexible.

In terms of area, Welwyn Garden City, Letchworth, codicote are all nice

Thats so great to hear that it was positive for you! Our parents seem to be finding the idea harder than us although they get it, we are currently only 20 mins from both sets of grandparents.

I’ll take a look at those areas, we really need to go visit everywhere!

When you say enrol late do you still mean for reception intake? I feel like there’s not much movement once you get past reception?

@Fhg2587 we were in the same position, my parents lived just up the road from us and were sad when we left but we still see them every week and my mum will come and stay a few days at a time. She even has her own room now!

Our children are still small, 20 months and three. So we’ve probably had an easier time of it with school nurseries etc.

just for context our local primary school has 180 child total, small class sizes etc. And are frequently promoting themselves and their abundance of places in the local paper. Which makes me feel they would be quite flexible on intake. My friends child was able to start midway through the year at another countryside location. It may be similar for you, wherever you decide to go!
