Whereabouts are you - my ds is now a toddler but I should be able to remember a few things - depends a lot on where you are in Reading.

Ah, well I can't help you much then as I'm in the University area. I know the NCT did a bumps and babies coffee morning at Pizza Express (I think it was Wednesdays). I can try and find a number if you like?

If you can get over to Cemetary Junction there's a lovely toddler group (that has a quieter baby room) at the Warehouse on Wednesdays 10-12. If you want more info I can tell you where it is.

Have you found the toy library yet? It's not far from you on Southcote Road.

Failing all that you can always get on the bus and come and have a cuppa at my house!

Hi

when i had my DD, i didn't know anyone and was new to Reading. I also had probs with meeting people and meet ups etc.

I bit the bullet and started my own. I asked the health visitor/doctors' surgery to help. They started a list of people who'd like to get together and signd to give permission to pass on details. I started a group that was originally about 20 mums with babies all born within 8 weeks of each other.

At first we met at local coffee shops etc but once the little ones got a bit older, i hired the local community centre for 2 months at a time.

Nearly 4 years on and, though the group's dwindled a bit, we still meet, have birthday party every year, mums' night out, dads' night out, babysit for each other etc. we're really good friends now.

give it a try. you'll be surprised how many mum's are in the same position as you!

May I suggest 'Buggyfit'? www.buggyfit.co.uk. There's a class in Caversham on a Wednesday at 1.30 for an hour - you take your baby with you, you exercise (power walking interspersed with toning and strengthening exercises) and everyone is really friendly and welcoming. Whether you're super-fit or not-at-all-fit, the class will suit you as the trainer knows how to deal with a range of fitness levels. Most of all, its great fun - I promise you that there is no need to be anxious about going on your own. Contact Claire McMillan [email protected]. HTH!!

Forgot to mention the Breastfeeding Network - have a look at this link

Again, I hope this helps!

There's a really good breast feeding support group at Battle Library on the Oxford Road, each Thursday at 11am. Can't recommend it enough, they are all lovely. I still pop in from time to time myself, even though my two are now toddlers

Kennet Valley Free Church run a Mums & Tiddlers group in their fab new building. There might still be a waiting list but may be worth a visit to see?

It is run by a church but full of local mums & very friendly.

If you call the child information centre they will let you know what is going on in the area. I did buggyfit and this is great.
there is a child centre in calcot, ask your HV about it and you will get more info there too.
Once you get into a group, your time gets filled up quite quikly, enjoy!
