Manager's baby getting all the attention at nursery

Hello

Our baby has been at a local nursery for a little while and recently the manager has placed her baby into the baby room. On a number of ocassions when dropping off and picking up our child, we have noticed that her baby is constantly getting one on one attention whereas other babies are not. We have seen at times babies left crying without being comforted which I assume would rarely happen with the manager's baby (we have never seen him left alone crying)!

Has anyone ever experienced this and how do I raise a compliant given I can't go to the manager directly myself given the conflict of interest?

I'm pretty amazed you are getting close enough to observe what goes on in the baby room.
Every Nursery I work with has had to move to a swift handover outside.

We can see through the windows of the nursery and another parent has observed the same.

How long are you stood outside staring through the window in order to witness the baby getting constant attention?

If you are unhappy then change nurseries.

If you're worried then speak to them, but I would be wary of making judgements like this based on the 5 minutes you are there dropping off and picking up

Why would you leave your baby in a nursery where you thought they weren't being comforted? Regardless of whether or not you think the manager's baby is getting more attention.

I have previously worked in a nursery. It's perfectly normal to give one on one attention to a child when they come into the nursery in the morning to help them settle. Additionally if it is a very young baby, the ratio of staff to babies is smaller dependent on age. I would assume the nursery staff know what they are doing. That being said, if you aren't happy there I'm sure that you can find a different nursery.

Yes!! This happened to us with a workers baby and a managers baby. Both started at 3 months and the mum would hold their own baby loads. I didn’t raise it and soon my kid moved to the older room.
But I agree it’s not acceptable to give less attention to others for a particular child. The wieners kids also went there as well!

The flip side made me think the nursery must be caring and fab if lots of workers chose to send their kids there

must be caring and fab if lots of workers chose to send their kids there

Or they get paid to look after their own children all day, mostly.

Have you considered how hard it must be for the baby to constantly see mum but not be with their mum?
Have you considered how hard it must be for the manager to work hearing their baby cry and not be able to go to them?
That’s the reason he is getting more attention, the staff are working hard to enable mum to do her job
I doubt the other babies are being ignored or neglected, the ratio is 1-3 so it’s not easy to soothe 3 babies at once
If your not happy with this then find another nursery but consider the manager wants the best for her baby and she has chosen the nursery where she works- that’s a pretty good endorsement

@FTEngineerM

I work in a school with 1700 kids not one member of staff sends their kid there...
I wonder why?

FTEngineerM · 10/04/2021 07:19

It sounds like they maybe little bastards @OverTheRainbow88 🙊

Oh I had the opposite at my sons first nursery. A few staff had their kids there and the “staff kids” were given quite short shrift by their parents if they were being a bit... Challenging. (Other staff perfectly equitable ofc).

They were older (3-4) - it may have been different if they were babies- but I didn’t envy the staff/parents or the kids in that situation.
