Boarding without the boarding!

Hello all, we are currently looking for an all girls secondary school for my daughter. We live in West London but are not sure if the London schools will offer the right ‘all rounder’ experience that I think she would thrive in. She is arty, obsessed with drama and shows promise in sports. She is bright and works hard but is not driven by academics at this stage, although my feeling is she might be later. She plays an instrument, loves choir, dancing etc. She loves trying out clubs and really enjoys her extra curricular activities. We are lucky that her prep school has a classical ‘English’ approach to education rather than the sometimes more rat race approach that other London schools seem to have. We would love her to go to a school which is nurturing, has tons of activities and facilities so she can get stuck into clubs etc. We also want a school where she can do really well academically but isn’t ‘hot housey’. I also would love for her to go to a school that is nearby. In some ways she would really suit a boarding school - in terms of opportunities, grounds etc but she is not wanting to board and we are not keen either. Nothing suitable to her near us in London fits this. We are thinking perhaps of moving to live Monday-Friday/Saturday near the ‘perfect’ school but keep out London ties/be in London in holidays. CLC looks like it could be perfect. Are there other day girls whose families have moved for the school? How hard is it to get it? Can it be compared in terms to how hard it is to get in to another school eg G&L, Francis Holland or Queensgate? Do day girls feel included? If not CLC where else could offer this kind of experience? Is Cheltenham a nice place to be for most of the working week? Any advise or help would be welcome.

St Paul's Girls School.

Thank you - do you mean it’s as hard to get into as St Paul’s or are you recommending St Paul’s as an option please?

One of DS’s friends from prep school went to CLC. She hates it but her older sister loves it. They are full boarders though.

You need to choose a school where there is a good mix of day v boarders.

Sorry, I was suggesting St Paul's as an option.

There must be some decent GDST schools around you, they are usually excellent.
