Thinking of moving to Fife

HI there,
I'm a solo mum to a 2.5 year old and currently in London, but my parents are in Burntisland. We love visiting them there, and am finding that financially London life is not sustainable for me. I'm wondering if there are any parents in Aberdour, Kinghorn or Burntisland who could help me get an idea of the community there for families? I've been in London 12 years, have a fantastic social life here so am a bit anxious about making the move. But I know the quality of life would be so much better for me and my son. I just don't get much of a 'sense' of how easy it might be to meet people in these areas, any advice or tips about it would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Hey @Tinyzebra , we’re not in fife but moved to a similar sized town in Scotland from abroad. I found it very easy to make friends as it was the same group of people at the school gate, toddler group, clubs, church, playpark etc.

The one thing that made a big difference to us was choosing an area that has a reasonable number of incomers/returners. I found it much harder to make friends with those who lived here all their lives, as they already had established friendship groups.

You will probably get better replies about the local towns if you ask for this to be moved to Scotsnet.

Thank you so much @peakotter, that’s really interesting and I hadn’t even thought of that! Glad that your move turned out well. This was my first post ever so I’m not sure how to put it on scotsnet but I am now going to try! Thanks again

Hi - I'm in Kirkcaldy now but moved to Burntisland 12 years ago from the south, pregnant with my first child. I found joining baby and toddler groups a good way to meet people and I got to know my neighbours well. It's very friendly, lots of people with small children and a lot going on. Im a solo mum too so give me a shout if you need anything. Moving is a big change but I love it up here!

Hi @Iamhangingin thanks so much for your reply, that’s so helpful. I go back and forth pretty much constantly in my mind so it’s great to hear your experience. Why did you move from Burntisland if you don’t mind me asking? Great to hear from another solo mum too. Thank you.
