Moving to the Cambridge Area

Hello there, I am planning a move to Cambridge and would be really grateful for your thoughts on where to settle! My boys are 5 and 8. One of my main reasons for moving is to be near good secondary schools. I understand that Parkside is good but where do you live?! Can't seem to find any houses for sale or rent in the area. Need to be near good rail links into London. Would appreciate your advice!

"Best" state secondary schools by GCSE score are Parkside (not Coleridge, which now forms part of the Parkside Federation) and several of the village colleges around Cambridge, such as Comberton and Linton. Catchment Map. I think you would probably have to live in catchment if you wanted to guarantee a place at Parkside.
If you live in Cambridge, the fastest trains (under 50 mins non stop) down to London go into Kings X. Outside Cambridge, Whittlesford Station is on the Liverpool St line and the semi-fast trains stop there (1 hour 10 mins to L'Pool St, 1 hour to Tottenham Hale). The slow trains to Kings X from Cambridge can be very slow.

Thank you Lilymaid. Am I right in thinking that there is a lot going on for children in the City? I like the idea of being close to the centre but it does complicate housing/schooling etc. I have family in Linton so that is another choice.

I live in one of the villages but there does seem to be plenty of activities for children in Cambridge - the only problem being the traffic jams to get around. The larger villages are good for primary school aged children (though the schools are very variable - I wouldn't recommend Linton Heights, for example, but would recommend Meadows Balsham or Gt Abington). If you are planning to stay for a long time and live in a village you could find yourself doing a lot of driving into and out of Cambridge with older children.

Central Cambridge can be very expensive but the houses do seem to keep their value so if you can afford to move to the centre it seems to be worth doing.

If you go outside Bottisham has a good secondary school i think
