Need to start a job in Filton Business park

Hi,
I along with my husband and 2 kids have to move to some area near Filton as my husband's work has offered him a job in Filton.
We currently live in Derby and have no friends or family in and around Bristol. We have no idea which areas are good and affordable with good primary schools (ideally outstanding ofsted status). As we are coming from Derby, we are finding Bristol very expensive.

Could anyone please help and give some information on good areas to live in/around Filton/Bristol/outskirts of Bristol, for a young family, schools, commute to Filton etc.

You could look out towards nailsea & Blackwell, Weston super mare, portishead etc. Both my husband and I work in Filton and we commute in from
That sort of area. Weston has a bit of a rubbish reputation but parts are nice and it’s cheap

What's your budget? Will he be working regular 9-5 or shifts? If the former I'd consider living in Wales and getting the train, houses are much cheaper

How old are the children? Is your DH going to be driving or could he cycle? Rough idea of budget? Rental/buying?

Elder one will be 5 this year so will start reception year. Younger one is just 18 months. DH could drive or cycle, both options are fine. We are looking to rent a property first and the budget is not more than £1300 per month.

@Darkestseasonofall My budget is around £1300 per month for a 2-3 bedroom flat/house. He will work normal 9 to 5 office hrs.

It depends a lot on if you're renting to try out an area to buy, and if so what your budget is, or if you'll long term rent.
Personally I'd avoid living in Filton or Southmead.
Bristol traffic is an absolute pig in rush hour, so he'd probably do well to cycle / train / come at it from the motorway rather than through town.
Bristol is really odd in as much as there are lovely pockets next to pockets of absolute poverty, I've never seen a city so intertwined.
Primary schools are generally OK, the secondary situation is terrible so most people move out or go private if possible.

For the most bang for your buck I would look at Newport.

It's around 30 minutes to Filton, much cheaper for property and brim Wales I believe it is still free prescriptions.

The tolls were removed on the Second Severn Crossing last year so no need to worry about that.

Yecartmannew · 22/07/2020 19:46

Sorry, being in not brim!

How is Emerson Green area? How are the schools in the catchment? House are affordable so wanted to know about schools

No idea what Emersons Green is like to live in. Traffic between there and Filton is diabolical.

Have you called the LA to ask which schools still have places?

Guide here

As you need a Reception place you would probably be better finding that first then a house near the school.

I used to work around Stoke Gifford it is a nice place. I worked in schools there. The traffic is awful between stoke Gifford and filton but it's only a few miles and there are good cycle tracks there.
