Moving from Cardiff to Bristol

Hello
We are thinking to move to Bristol from Cardiff, we are renting at the moment. Our budget is approx 300 K and I am travelling more often to South West of UK and Wales so trying to finD a place in the middle and close to train station as possible.
We are planning to have a baby ;) looking for some family places close to park..
We had looked at to Bradley Stoke and Stoke Gifford. And other recommendations are highly welcome:)

Also checked Yatton, Clevedon, Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Nailsea.. they seem so far away..
any advise on which places would be better to commute M4 both Wales and Swindon direction..
Many thanks

I grew up in Chipping Sodbury. It will have everything you will need as a family. I got fed up being there as it was gossipy and small-minded. But I guess that's everywhere. Portishead is worth a look, near to Bristol, near M5 if you want a trio to Devon. Not far from Cribbs Causeway which is handy for shopping. Clevedon you will constantly get stuck and I mean gridlocked on hot days. Bradley Stoke always seemed bland with no character for me. Pucklechurch seems pretty? Get a lot for your money in Shirehampton which is mega convenient for M5, Cribbs Causeway and zipping into the centre of Bristol, some lovely character housed there - but has a much more towny feel to it, and parking can be tricky. Nailsea Blackwell worth a look?

Emersons Green, Downend, some bits of Staple Hill or Mangotsfield round by Page Park, Lyde Green would all be good for being close to the M4 / M32, but you will find there's a lot of traffic at times on the ring road.

My preference would be Downend if you do want to be close to the m4 junction, but also close to good facilities. It isn't too far from the station, but again depends how you're going to get there - traffic is always a problem so you might want to go right by a station instead.

Great cycle paths into Bristol or to Bath from that area (but they can be busy). Lovely parks - Page Park, King George V, Pomphrey Hill, other assorted small ones.

Could also look at Pucklechurch or Longwell Green too, but that's further out and harder to get to a station from. Or Filton, Bradley Stoke if you want to go the other way from the junction.

Have you looked at chepstow area? Smack bang by the old bridge so eas access to M4 and M5, not too far to either Bristol or Cardiff,

LeThiShine · 30/06/2020 16:56

Thank you so much @ I had checked out CHipping soldbury and also some parts of Nailsea, the prices are really getting high at the moment! I will have a dip look at. In mean time we may need nursery not sure if CS will be good then?

@BrieAndChilli @Brizzlersthank you so much, I will check out the places that you mentioned.

I had a looked at Chepstow but not sure how is the junction and traffic ? Sometime I took that way to go Worcester, roads seems so busier?

Chepstow gets chokka in the rush hour (starting from about 7.30 am :O!) and as a result also has terrible air quality close to the A48.

  • and no direct train to Bristol unfortunately, only Gloucster/Cheltenham and Cardiff (actually quicker from Rogiet/Severn tunnel junction, but don't think I'd want to live there...),

Lovely the rest of the time though :)

LeThiShine · 30/06/2020 17:35

@candycane22 thanks, really helpful, I was worried about that. Will come to dig around ;)

Be aware that Chepstow, and of course most places, will be a lot busier when ( if !!) covid restrictions go away, especially in term time. I'm sure you' ve though of that though Smile

I'm in Stroud now - beautiful place to have a family and you could get a lovely house semi rural for your budget. Most schools in Stroud are excellent. It's commutable to Bristol, both me and my husband and I have done it. Work is possible in Bristol 8-4. I know it's not Bristol, just thought I'd mention it x
PS if you fancy a nose at Stroud, I recommend Whiteshill, Ebley, Cashes Green x

LeThiShine · 30/06/2020 18:17

@candycane222 yes totally right! COVID affected everything inc traffic.. hopefully some kind of normalisation will come soon... We continue our search around. Thanks!

I'm in Keynsham, between Bristol and Bath. We have a station with direct trains to both cities as well as Weymouth and Cardiff as well as others.
It's about an hour and a half by road to Weymouth using the A37, 20-30 minutes to Bristol airport, 50 minutes to Weston super mare.
We have a massive park with 2 lots of climbing equipment, a cafe, skate park, tennis courts and bowls pitch just off the high street. It's also the site of an annual music festival (which pubs and restaurants also holding music events in the week before).
High street has the usual mixture of retail chains, supermarkets and some lovely independent retailers like a lingerie shop and a pram/baby stuff shop.

@MrsMoastyToasty thank you! Sounds great, I will look at from Rightmove.

How do you think Bradley Stoke area? Is there any area that should avoid? I was worried about some crime rates around some specific streets..(Although we know that it might happen in any area.. ) Many thanks

I haven't lived on the north side of Bristol for 20 years (although I have family that side). Parts of Bradley Stoke get very congested as there are some major employers in the area.

LeThiShine · 01/07/2020 09:20

Thanks @MrsMoastyToasy, I will keep looking on All around inc Keynsham seem lovely- but could not find anything at the moment. Fingers crossed there might be something coming
