Hi there;
We are thinking of moving from Plymouth to Bristol. Any advice on good area to live with kids please? I have two kids 3 years and 10 months old. Safe; peaceful and green area in Bristol. I can’t find anything online..

What's your budget and requirements?

PurpleDaisies · 13/06/2020 00:36

Budget will be key. Bristol is expensive. Also horrible to commute across. Where will work be?

Pinkycupcake · 13/06/2020 17:52

My budget is between £250-£300 thousand and some where close to parks maybe schools..

What type of house/flat do you like?
Do you drive? Temple Meads station is not really in the centre of town. (There are others).
Would you consider a village/satellite town? Eg Thornbury/Yate/Nailsea/Keynsham?
Where will you/DH be working? AXA/Rolls Royce/Ministry of Defence are major employers to the north side of the city and the local roads get gridlocked.
Are you looking for state or private schools?
Bristol has lots of open spaces. There's Durdham Downs (The Downs), Blaise Castle and Ashton Court (over the suspension bridge and technically in North Somerset).

I forgot to mention that Bristol is s county/local authority and the adjoining authorities - North Somerset; Bath and North East Somerset; and South Gloucestershire - may have boundaries that aren't obvious. Some streets have houses on one side belonging to one authority and the other side belongs to another.

Thank you for responding back. I do want a house not flat and I also I can drive. I really do not want outskirts of Bristol.. I love Bristol, hopefully I get a nice house and the city will be good for me as Plymouth is very peaceful too but it’s too far in terms of travel. Hopefully I get a good house in the city of Bristol for my budget of £200,000 -£350,000.

Have a look around the st George/hanham area. There’s a lovely park with woodlands, a view across the whole city and a small play park (troopers hill). It’s also near the river for nice walks, park at conham and a few mins walk it’s like you’re not it a city at all.

Thank you so much. I really can’t find anything on my budget. I am looking for somewhere like , Knowle, Bishopton, or any other nice area for my kids. My husband have a really good job in plymouth but I really can’t stay here for any longer . I am looking for semi detached house 3bed room with garage and private garden. My budget is £300000 to £350000.

OP - Unfortunately you're not going to find a house in Bishopston in your budget. You'll have more chance of finding a property in Knowle for your budget but it will depend on what part of Knowle you're wanting to move to (Lower Knowle or Upper Knowle etc). The stamp duty holiday has pushed house prices up so I don't know if it's worth waiting for the SD holiday to come to an end?

Pinkycupcake · 27/04/2021 23:13

Thank you so much for your response. I know right!! House price has really gone up. I don’t really know Bristol like that and I don’t know either of those places (Lower Knowle or Upper Knowle). Can you let me know which area in Bristol is family friendly place I can find a house please. I am not in a rush as the house price now is not fair so I do have to wait until next year. I just want to know where I should be looking. Many thanks

Well I've lived in North Bristol & South Bristol and given your budget, you'll get more for your money in South Bristol.

Brislington and Knowle are good family friendly areas, as is Totterdown but you might struggle to find a house in that area in your budget.

Are you planning on moving back to Bristol permanently? Have you considered schools for your kids? It might be worth having a look at Bristol City Council website on school admissions.

I would have a look at Knowle Park. Houses have largish gardens and many have garages. You will be close to Redcatch Park. Closest school would be Knowle Park.
Hengrove area in South Bristol would also be within your budget. There is a children's play park at Hengrove and also swimming pool / leisure centre and cinema.
