Hi Everyone,
My name is Shannida, I’m new to this Mumsnet.
Just need some advice. My son is 18months and I wanted to send him to nursery in September but I have no idea we’re I even start and what do I need to look out for. I would like him to go to a nursery within a school but is that the best idea? Im looking for advice about the funds. Looking forward to some new advice. X

Hi OP- not an easy time to look as you can’t view any nurseries. But when ready go to your local authorities website, they will have a list of registered nurseries.
FYI Going to a school nursery gives you no advantage to get into that school.
Are you looking for just term time child care?

Things to consider when viewing a nursery:
Location for drop off and pick up
Opening hrs- a couple near us opened at 8am which was no use, needed a 7.30am
Fees- I saw a “cheap” nursery and an extortionately priced nursery. I could see why the cheap nursery was cheap, not why the expensive one was sooo expensive.
When checking fees the nursery will advise what food/ If nappies are included.
Check they accept childcare vouchers or tax free child care payments- however you intend on paying.
You can check their offsted report on the government website
But generally I think you get a feel for a place when you visit. Not also the most slick operation is the most nurturing- and every child is different. For me I saw one very highly rated nursery but it really bothered me there was a step to a concrete garden and it didn’t feel safe to me.
Many will have a waiting list so when you like somewhere stick the name down.
