Hi, I'm in the process of moving to Mumbles in Swansea from Melbourne, Australia. I'm originally from Scotland, though hubby is Welsh, and trying to find out about where we're moving too. I'm wondering if anyone can share their thoughts and experiences on local schools such as The Grange, Newton Primary, Oystermouth Primary, Whitestone Primary and Mayals Primary? TIA, we're so excited to be moving to Mumbles! M

Hi sorry only just seen your post! All those schools are fab as the areas are lovely. My inlaws live in Mumbles - its a great sociable place and the prom is great for a buggy!

Hi @mummamoving. Have just seen your post. I live in Mumbles so happy to answer any questions you've got. My kids both went to Oystermouth.

Hello! I can see this is an old thread, but thinking of moving to Mumbles with two DCs (4 and 2yrs) and wondering if you made the move @Mummamoving ? We're torn between Cardiff and Mumbles at the moment. My family is in Cardiff, but just love Mumbles/Gower and wondered how easy it is to make friends/community there... Thanks! :-)

Hi @Queenieoh . This just popped up on my open threads. We made the move to mumbles from Scotland 16 years ago and have loved every minute of it. My eldest was a toddler at the time. I struggled to make friends initially as I worked from home but as soon as he was in school I made loads. It's such a fab place to bring up kids with the beach on your doorstep. Only downside is getting in and out in the summer with the amount of visitors.

Thank you so much for this @massistar Are there any schools or areas in particular that you'd recommend or avoid? I have such fond memories of going there to stay with my Grandad but it's been a long time since then 😄

Hi @Queenieoh it very much depends on your budget! Mumbles has gotten expensive in recent years.

I have friends with kids in most of the schools you mentioned and would add Bishopston to the list. All are nice, small local primary schools. West Cross is cheaper than Mumbles/Langland/Newton so you will get a bit more for your money.

Secondary school catchment is a bit more tricky as those areas are split across 2 schools. Bishopston which is seen as high achieving but very middle class and white (also doesn't have a 6th form) and Bishop Gore which has a much more diverse catchment area and still a good school.
