Moving to Poole/ Bournemouth area

Hello!

We are planning to move from overseas to Poole/Bournemouth in Summer 2020.
I will be working at Poole Hospital, and eventually from time to time in Bournemouth.

We have a daughter who will be starting year 12 and a son starting year 10.

Where would you live, Bournemouth or Poole? Which one is nicer? Where are there better schools? I am looking for a grammar for my eldest starting sixth form, but I think it might be more difficult to find a place for my son entering year 10. We are also open to live in a village as long as there is good public transport.
We will be renting and will be looking for really nice areas to live in.
Any suggestions?

We are very excited but there is so much to decide and we feel a bit lost!

Thank you all for your help!Smile

Thank you Becbobs! I will have a look both at the school and the hospital. It sounds like a good option!
I am so happy with all your help! Incredibly useful information, thank you!

We're in the process of looking at 6th forms but for a boy, not a girl. Girls have got the option of both the Bournemouth Grammars now for 6th form. Parkstone Grammar does come across better than Poole Grammar. DS wasn't keen on Bournemouth and I took 3 boys to Ringwood recently and none were particularly keen on the 6th form either which surprised me.

I know 2 local families who have 2 children in Canford but it's out of reach of most and not on most people's radar I've not heard anything particularly great about Bournemouth Collegiate but Talbot Heath seems to be good.

Agree traffic is bad and would rather be to the west. Not heard a bad word about Lytchett over the years. Ferndown Upper is on the up at the moment . Have heard Poole High has really turned round now as well. I think the new Head at QE is starting to make a difference. Twynham in Christchurch has a good reputation too.

Agree traffic is bad. Wimborne to Poole hospital doable but early is better otherwise it takes quite a time.

When we moved to to Poole, areas suggested to live were BH14 Lower Parkstone south of the railway line, BH13 Canford Cliffs and Sandbanks (pricey) and BH18 Broadstone. All give easy access to the hospital.

I personally wouldn’t do the commute from Ringwood to Poole, I work near the hospital and my old manager comes in from Ringwood and hates it.

Agree, Wimborne or Ringwood to Poole are ok on a good day but not fun on a bad day.
Upton/Lytchett BH16 or parts of Creekmoor BH17 are worth looking at.

sorry to jump in on this thread but i know there are quite a few.locals on this thread and I am thinking of moving to Poole in the next few years. Probably, like everyone else, I want to be as close to the coast as possible. Baiter Park seems to have some quite affordable properties but am wondering if there is a catch? Is it a bad area?
Heckford Park is also on my radar - what is that like?
Would be great to hear some honest opinions of those areas if possible, thank you

Hello All

I'm hoping someone local can help. We are moving to Poole from South Staffordshire in The Midlands and we would like to hear your opinions on Parkstone as an area to live and bring up children. I have 3. Almost 10, 7 and 1. so i'm really interested in schools Primary and decent catchment for secondary aswell, since we will be applying next September.

Our house is sold so we dont have long to make the right decision. I will be staying in my job as i work from home but hubby works in logistics/ manufacturing. in the midlands the big players are DHL, Yodel, Jaguar Landrover and Rolls Royce ecr so any suggestions on companies nearby that may be worth contacting for work is helpful.

The specific area of interest at the moment is Parkstone near to Rossmore and near to bourne valley park since we quickly realised our money gets us nothing in Southbourne.

We love urban life and multi cultural places but we equally love the sea, outdoor space and a good sense of community.

As a family moving this far away from what we know a safe place to bring up children and good education is our priority..like every1 else here i guess!

Thanks in advance x

Hello! Just resurrecting this thread as i have a yr 5 and am wondering where people in this thread ended up for secondary and if they're happy. Or if people have any other thoughts. I'm hoping schools will have open days this summer...
