Moving to Scotland

My husband and I are considering moving to Scotland with our twins (19m). We are fed up with how things are going in England (mainly Brexit) and want to bring our kids up in a more positive country. We live in Yorkshire at the moment in a small town but miss city life a little bit. We want to be somewhere that is good for kids, safe with good schools and good train links. However, we do like a vibrant place that has enough for the grown-ups too, i.e. good cafes, restaurants, bars, culture and somewhere with a good community feel. A lot to ask!
We are currently thinking of Linlithgow, Dunblane, BofA or Dunbar (North Berwick too expensive). I have heard that Dundee is quite good or Stirling but not sure if these places are good for kids.
Any advice and insight would really be appreciated.

I am not sure the sentiment in Scotland is much more positive in terms of Brexit.

I used to live in Dunblane. I was a nice place to bring up children but there are not many cafes. bars etc. Certainly no city feel. Bridge of Allan is probably better for that. I am not fond of Stirling as a city.

I live near to Dundee now and wouldn't really want to live there either but my children are adults now so it may be good for families. I don't know much about Linlithgow but it does have good rail links to Edinburgh, as do Dunblane and BofA.

I think Edinburgh would offer you the vibe you want but is a bigger city and expensive too.

Yorkshire is lovely. I am not sure why you would want to move from there!

I would advise you to come up for a few days and visit these places. You could do it easily in a few days.

Thanks for your message. We will visit next year, but tbh a move will only happen if Scotland goes independent, otherwise too closely linked to Westminster unfortunately. Might even consider Ireland.

Linlithgow is a great wee town, plenty going on but good community too and train is 20 mins to Edinburgh.

Glasgow probably has everything that you're looking for, perhaps living in the south side, or the west end of Glasgow... Plenty to do for both children and adults...

(P. S. Politically North Berwick, typically isn't any different from down south)
