Hello, has anyone's child received an offer from Hills Road yet? They are due to go out this week, but nothing received here to date.

I thought they have offers almost immediately which had to be accepted by 4pm the next day? DS got his the day of his interview.

Having said that he had something this week and had to confirm availability for the aclimatisation days in late June and enrolment days in late August.

Are you in or out of catchment? My dd goes there. The out of catchment offers were slightly later- mid April.

Oh Dd says to tell you good luck. She loves it there

I really wouldn’t stress. My daughter applied in August and started in the September. All the worry and pressure they instil in them for interviews and applications is needless. As a parent it was also really stressful! They aren’t oversubscribed in terms of those that meet the grade. She had originally chosen Comberton, but then changed her mind late August due to travel concerns. She applied online and was accepted the next week. Good luck. I know it’s really stressful

As a state school, I think it’s a bit bad having out of catchment place offers. A friend has someone in her tutor group from Luton. There are enough talented students from Cambs to fill the place twice over

Personally as rural Cambridgeshire without the ability to afford the house prices of cambridge, out of catchment offers, level the social mobility plating field.

Apparently they no longer have "catchment". From their website...

Where do Hills Road students come from, and do you still prioritise ‘in-area’ applicants ahead of ‘out-area’ applicants?

For September 2019 entry we are no longer classifying applicants as ‘in-area’ or ‘out-area’.

Hills Road Sixth Form College is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming community where all students are enabled to meet their full potential and are respected as individuals.

Admission is open to all qualified applicants. With effect from 2019, there is no distinction being made in relation to an applicant’s school or home address.

However, the applicant must live, or intend to move to live, with their parent(s) within sustainable commuting distance of the College (for the duration of their two-year course).

As I said, I’d regard Cambridgeshire as in catchment if there was one.

As a state school, I think there should be a catchment or - at least - a commitment to give priority to students from Cambridgeshire. Since the school is massively over subscribed this would mean no one from Luton would be a pupil.

My daughter has said from this years yr11 the minority lives as close as we do. They are all from villages. Lots travel from quite a distance. I think the over subscribed status comes from the applications they receive from those who don’t meet the grade criteria and also the fact people are prepared to travel further to go there. I don’t know one person who was refused admission who were predicted 7s and above at GCSE. The admissions criteria must have change to accommodate what they were catering for anyway.

It used to be that if you were outside the feeder schools you'd have to get higher grades to get in.
