Moving to Cambridge south side

We are planning to move to Cambridge in the near future, my husband will be working on the south side of the city and I'll probably work from home or try and get a local job. We've 2 small kids 1 in primary school and 1 will start in around 2 years.. Anyone here live around Trumpington? How is that area..? Or can anyone recommend areas to the south of Cambridge/central? Areas good for young kids and stressed out parents!! I would really appreciate any advise, many thanks

Trumpington is a pretty nice area, very close to the hospital which makes house prices quite high even by cambridge standards. I don't know much about the schools but there is a newer school by the park and ride but they run together as the Trumpington federation. There always seemed to be a lot of groups run from the community rooms at the school

thanks so much LakeOfDreams, it's all a minefield.. I'll take a look at the Trumpington federation schools.

Is Sawston too far out? Has a small range of shops, primary schools and a secondary.

Thanks BlueChampagne, it's certainly more reasonable than Cambridge.. Do you have any experience with the schools there?

Trumpington was very expensive when I lived in Cambridge until few years ago. Have a look at Cherry Hinton for an alternative with very good transport links, easy access to the station, hospital and city centre, and several local schools.

We have friends who work in the life science sector who live there, and they are happy with the schools (one child in primary and one in secondary), if that's any help.

Hi there anyone from Bromsgrove ? Is it good area for baby’s school etc .

sluj · 28/02/2019 16:26

Bromsgrove wouldn't be a good school run from Cambridge, Southside or otherwise 🤔

Stillnoidea · 28/02/2019 16:28

Sawston Village College is meant to be pretty good i think??

Penguinandbear · 28/02/2019 16:33

Trumpington is nice, don't know schools. Linton is traditional village and has good schools, relatively good value housing, only thing is misses is a train station but that keeps prices down. It has shops, tennis courts, gym, pubs by the river, zoo, thatched cottages. Sawston has a good secondary and shops. It's worth driving round some of the villages with schools - most of the schools are pretty good. If any SEN involved Cambourne and Camborne are about the best. Melbourn isn't bad - secondary is good, house prices reasonable, swimming pool at the school everyone can use.

Some village schools go to 16 rather than 18 and Hills Road 6th form is used by quite a few schools.

Penguinandbear · 28/02/2019 16:33

Melbourn has Meldreth station nearby.

Might be too far but Saffron Walden has excellent schools, lovely town and train station at Audley End. Worth looking at if want somewhere cheaper than Cambridge but bigger than a village.

Thanks everyone just reading replies now, very good of you all to respond. Will definitely check out the villages nearby.
