Bin collections

To stop animals raiding the food recycling bin, all of our neighbourhood put this bin out on top on any other recycling bin. I've just had a discussion with the green recycling bin crew to ask them not to throw the food recycling bin off the top. (Constantly being broken, and a real pain for following food bin crew ) Apparently, it's a H&S thing that they can't lift a heavy food bin off the top, and they tell me they will no longer empty large bins if there's a food bin on the top. Thought you should all know....

but the food bin can be 'locked' so nothing can get inside it. not sure i understand how they are being raided?

i agree that the other bin crews can't be wasting time gently removing and then putting back the food bins on top of the other bins, although I find the old H&S excuse a bit daft and ridiculous.

You'd have thought that the bins were raid-proof, but badgers figured out that if they just keep thumping the bin, it eventually just springs. Seen the cheeky beggars doing just that ...
Maybe we just have smart badgers here, but we all got really tired of clearing up the messes.

I've had a phone call from the City of Edinburgh Council to say this is not their policy, the crews should not throw the bins and they will be asked not to. I added that I do have some sympathy with the crews as it must be a real pain to have to remove the food waste bins, so maybe a mutually acceptable solution could be reached.
