Hiya, we are thinking of coming up to Edinburgh for a week end,
please can you reccomend

  1. a nice restaurant for families(any type of cuisine)
  2. activities for children that are unique to Edinburgh
  3. reasonably priced accomodation(either central to locations/with character/ and parking available. btw dc are 6.5(with walking difficulties-can bring a wheelchair)and a 3.5year old with attitude many thanks

hi chatee

ncie restaurants - edinburgh ahs a pretty big italian community and therefore there are loads of italian restaurants that we usually go to with the dds as the waiters love children and the menus are fullof things children love

there are 2 - union place and at Leith docks (the one at leith is very nice, the one at union place more central) there is also a whole street of italian restaurants just off george st (paralel to princes st) in frederick st and hanover st. all of them are great for families and open pretty much all day from lunchtime

for activites you culd try the Dynamic Earth
dynamic earth

the castle is popular with boys

and

holyrood palace is more popular with girls

the Zoo

if you are planning on coming up in August there is of course the festival and fringe
childrens festival

the Zoo is on a hill which is steep in parts, but they have safari buses that take wheelchairs, and there are nice picnic areas and small playparks in the zoo which the children love.

i havent been to dynamic earth for ages but its a new building and therefore i assume its suitable for wheelchairs. the castle is very steep and cobbled, not suitable in all parts for wheelchairs and can be hard to climb, but the main part should be ok (i hope - you could ring them)

holyrood palace (my favourite) should be fine for your dc's

if the weather is nice get a picnic and go the princes st gardens - i could spend all day there

the royal museum cna be great for children - they have lots of dinosaur exhibitions and giant insects etc

as for accomodation - edinburgh can be expensive

B&B is popular - murrayfield area and corstorphine - is nice and would have parking

would you like me to look s ome up for you?

np xx

butterfly world si small and should be ok for your dc's to walk round. the have talks on the insects and the butterflies

Hello ladies signing up today! I?ve been a regular on MN since last year ? it?s so addictive.

I found a lovely shop today and had to tell you about it ? Vanilla Bloom in William Street. It has such nice maternity wear; smellies and novelty baby wear plus treatments too. Worth a wander at least here?s some info living.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1089572007

edinburghmummy · 15/02/2008 10:55

Hello - Vanilla Bloom is a lovely shop but beware of the beauty salon in the back room. I had a pedicure and manicure there and it cost me £75! I almost fell over but like a mug I handed over my card to pay anyway. It wouldn't have been so bad if the therapist hadn't made my cuticles bleed as she was so heavy handed, I complained and got my money back.

kerryk · 15/02/2008 11:19

nailpolish or pruners how much are the annual tickets for the zoo.

bitofadramaqueen · 15/02/2008 21:43
