Am I the only person in Oxfordshire then?

Apparently I'm the only person showing on local listings for this county. Come on everyone, surely at least one of you is brave enough to say hi?

I'll go first shall I: hallooo!

Hi recently moved to carterton with little monkey 16 mths old .......work part time agency would love to meet others in similiar situation :-)

Gerbie · 08/06/2007 23:11

Hello both!

Whomovedmychocolate - at the risk of sounding like a stalker I recognise your name from some of the BLW discussions! Have just started BLW with my dd who is nearly 25 weeks. Wasn't planning to start before 26 weeks but gave her some broccoli to play with last week which she sucked furiously making excited noises so we've been giving her other stuff to try since most of which she has greeted with great enthusiasm! Love the photos of your DD 'eating' on your profile. Looking forward to lots of messy times ahead .

Liska · 11/06/2007 15:42

Am I too late to say hallo? just about to go out to get my 9 week old dd off to sleep, but found this thread in my 'woo hoo i am finally online again' frenzy. keen to meet other mums in oxford - also keen for any tips on how much she should be sleeping during the day (and how to convince her!)

Gerbie · 11/06/2007 20:45

Hi Liska,

I'm probably not the right person to ask as my dd is 25 weeks now and has never been much of a sleeper during the day (don't think she had read the books which say that newborns sleep for up to 18 hours a day!). Before I had her I rather naively thought that I would be able to get things done while she had nice long morning and afternoon naps! At the moment she manages about 1 to 1.5 hours a day (in probably about 3 sessions of 20 mins to half an hour) and I can't get her to sleep her in cot during the daytime (has to be pushchair - preferably on the move but not necessarily). Having said that she generally sleeps well in her cot at night so I can't really complain!

Liska · 11/06/2007 21:58

Thanks Gerbie, thats reassuring! dd usually only manages ten minutes or so at a time unless we are on the move. Nights are hit and miss...

That said today, having written the message, she has slept more than ever known. Not that I did anything with the time, except wait for her to wake up of course

Doctor says I should get her on a routine, but frankly that sounds a bit optimistic to me at 9 wks. Am pretty much going with the flow. I may not get much sleep at the mo, but I dont see a reason to add the stress of 'routining' into the equation just yet.

Gerbie · 12/06/2007 22:13

Hope that's the start of a bit more sleep all round. Yes, I can remember a few days where I don't think dd slept at all.

I'm not much of a routine person but dd seems to have found her own routine (I suppose it might be possible that if I'd started a routine that might have helped her get into one sooner??). I think night times got a bit more settled sometime around 12 weeks and for the last couple of months her naptimes (however limited they are) seem to be at fairly regular times.

Hope you manage to catch up on some sleep.

Hi Oxford Mummies,
Just wanted to say Hello. Found any new and exciting places to go with your children in Oxford recently?

paranoidmother · 14/06/2007 18:09

Hi

Something to look out for in the upcoming months is the foodie festival for children at Northmoor. Should be lots of good stuff to look at for the kids.

Somewhere to try locally is Waddesdon Manor (good if you are NT members as then free) they have a new Woodland Play Area.

Live near Bicester so if anyone is in this area would love to meet up with more people.

Mumof3dxb · 17/06/2007 14:59

Hi everyone
Just registered with mumsnet - I'm in Eynsham with my 3 kids: 5, 4 and 2 yrs, we'll be going on hols in August but wanted to make contact with anyone here.

choosyfloosy · 17/06/2007 15:01

thought i was on the oxford local listing. anyway. am here.

whomovedmychocolate · 21/06/2007 20:25

Hurrah! We do have people. Right folks, will answer all your posts in sec but I NEED YOUR HELP! We have a mumsnet local listing bit where we can list what's going on and what places are good with little ones.

If anyone goes to a mum and toddler group (come to mine, it's fab btw) or finds a decent swimming pool, or indeed a child friendly pub with non-crusty high chairs, list it.

You can even win prizes when you do - there's a big holiday prize coming up from Mumsnet so it's worth it!

Gerbie - oh she loves her food! Yes BLW is very, very messy - we should all meet up for lunch so you could be horrified. Much better than puree'd muck though IMHO.

A1968 I have a friend who lives in Carterton who has two little ones. If we can organise a meet up, come along and I'll drag her along so you can meet her. She's probably just round the corner from you. She's planning to go back part time soon, so you'll have a lot in common.

Liska - sleep is a myth perpetuating by cruel mummies to make you feel inadequate. Seriously, it comes with time. At 9 weeks everything is totally random.

MummyJules Hello to you too. I'm in North Oxfordshire so I don't know Oxford too well but I do have a suggestion actually - there is a new garden centre near Bicester - where World of Water is - I don't know if you know it, just across the M40 junction off the dual carriageway and it's fantastically baby friendly (about to list it here actually). They have quite a few mums groups meeting there and they are bfing friendly too.

choosyfloosy - you probably are, but for some reason people weren't showing up and no-one was posting and I wanted people to start.

So it seems like we have a little mini-group here. Who'd be up for meeting up and what days are good for people. I can't do Thursdays because I run a playgroup. But any other day is good for me.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/07/2007 06:24

Hi TwoFalls, you go to local listings at the top and click on listings.

theminxy1 · 09/07/2007 09:10

I've only just registered on the Oxford bit - just wanted to say hello.

I'm in South Oxfordshire with a 12 month old little minx! We've just moved, so would love to meet up with anyone who wants to....

whomovedmychocolate · 09/07/2007 21:19

Hello Minxy! There are a few of you in south oxford - notably twofalls. Perhaps the two of you could CAT each other?
