Has anyone been to North's on Rose Cresent? I'm looking for somewhere with good measurers and a range of makes and found this online, never heard of it. Would like patient staff who aren't teenagers (sounds awful but yeah, that's what we need).
A friend has recommended a shop in Saffron Walden but if a local one is good there would be no need to travel.
We haven't found Clarks or John Lewis to be particularly proficient at measuring feet and recommending shoes in the past, hence the question.
I also think there's somewhere on Milton Road, is that recommended by anyone?
Thanks!

Have you tried Charles Clinkard in the Grand Arcade (first floor)? They are our first port of call these days, but DSs aren't teens yet.

No, do they do a range? I am happy to go on people's recommendations, just really need patient experts!

I recommend Charles Clinkard too. Also worth knowing that they have sales in July (ish) and December.

The one on Milton Road is called Burr Shoes. It sells a range of makes but is quite small.

Charles Clinkard are good, John Lewis also good and there’s Barr’s on Milton Road. All have good staff but I was frustrated last year that John Lewis had only one type of black school shoe in stock in DDs size in August...

All of those stores carry a good range of brands, but it can be hit and miss with regards to what stock they carry in the size you need.

The Saffron Walden one (assuming you mean Solely for Children) is great (although my DC are older now so I haven't been for a while). Sometimes it get's very busy though - I always used to aim to be there first thing in the morning before the rush - especially just before Autumn term starts.

I don't particularly rate Burr Shoes on Milton Road. The don't have a wide range of makes (and do not stock Startrite, despite displaying the logo on the windows!). They stock mostly Ricosta, and don't seem to have them in different width fittings. They have definitely fitted my dd with what they had, rather than what she really needed, in the past. It's a shame because I'd really love to support a local, independent shop. :(

I've bought from JL and Clarks and Charles Clinkard too in the past, and I'm planning to measure the dds myself next time and buy from happy little soles online! They have lots of info about how to measure and choose the size.

Well we liked Charles Clinkard so will keep going there until they annoy me Wink

Happy to have helped!

Charles Clinkard usually good. I used to rate Burr shoes but also agree that they don't ave enough in stock and then sell you whatever they have.

SnowOnTheRoses · 20/04/2018 12:26

We're favouring Charles Clinkard at the moment too. I like the quality of the fitting service at JL but they had nothing but black school shoes in my child's very common size last time we went in (not in the holidays). My DC's school, like several in Cambridge, doesn't have a uniform so we didn't want those.
