Private autistic spectrum testing for adults

Hi,

I wondered if anyone would know who does tests for autistic spectrum diagnosis in adult women in Cambridge? I'm keen to have it done privately, as there is apparently a 2 year waiting list under the NHS.

Will the autism centre at cambridge uni do it? Im in the bordering county and i got an appt in london in 6 months after my referral got to them

I'm not sure actually. Was that on the NHS or privately? Maybe I could call them and ask. Was that the research department here?

Try looking on the website for the charity Action for Aspergers, they do diagnosis and are based in Corby.

I was diagnosed in Fulbourn by the NHS clinic there - only about 3 months wait for me. That said, it doesn’t actually lead to anything more than a diagnosis letter.

Thanks Travelling, that's good to know. I would mainly like to know which things about me are different from other people as I can't see myself from the outside. My son's private diagnosis gave quite detailed information on that and a list of things that we could try to improve. I would like that for myself too.

I can see that a letter of recommended actions might be useful. As I say, I very much did not get this as part of a diagnosis. However, I did work long-term with an excellent counsellor / therapist and together we worked out and put in place a set of personal guides for living well, which has worked excellently for me.

That's useful to know Travelling. The most useful thing with ds actually was going through the questionnaire and being questioned really hard on his history of imaginative play. I hadn't realised that he didn't do it as much as other children, because he did do it a bit. It would be really nice to go through that questionnaire for me, and find out what's different. I see the questionnaires are online with the marking schemes. I wondered if I have enough hands to test myself. LOL!

I have to say that I was huge on imaginative play, as were / are my dad and nephew! It just has to be done properly.
