Advice relocating to Cambridge

Good evening lovely ladies,

Thank you for taking the time to read this. My family and I are relocating to Cambridge later this year for my husband's work and I need some advice on where is nice to live.

It needs to be easy to get into town (unfortunately we don't have 6 figures to buy there), decent amenities, good nursery and schools. We have a 2 year old and a 5 month old.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I've only been there once before and wasn't looking at it as somewhere to live so my knowledge is next to nothing!

Thanks again

Don't live north of Cambridge if the workplace is to the south.

But 5 mins from the station is pretty central.

Ooops, missed that. Then I'd still live to the south, either close enough to cycle on the A10 route, or drive to the Trumpington P&R and then cycle the rest of the way in along the guided busway.

The OP said her husband won’t be cycling to work.
I think train is the best option so I don’t think it matters as long as they’re near a train station that has semi regular trains to Cambridge.

You've all been so helpful! We're going to come for a mooch at the weekend. Certainly checking out Ely and Royston etc.

Royston isn’t that nice.
Go to Ely and got so much more!

Get.

look around mill road for 600k 3 bedrooms. no way 4 beds 550 k around train station. then he will have to cycle in about 10 mins. no parking near station so unless he has office parking driving won't happen. might found smt around cam north station and take the train to the south but chances are slim with 4 beds.

I agree with others, if you aren't willing to cycle, then to work at the train station your best options are to live walking distance to somewhere on the train lines to the north (Waterbeach/Ely) or south (Shelford line, Royston line). Just depends how central vs village you want to be. Great Shelford might be worth a look.

NB Waterbeach look at the new town being built there before buying, and possible station relocation.
