Save our Trees and Save our Lives

To all this may concern,

I am writing on behalf of the 800 hundred trees that are going to be cut down across the 26 acres that is Central London Golf Centre, Burntwood Lane, London, SW17 OAT. In the place of these trees there is going to be a housing complex accompanying them 900 odd car parking spaces. There has been a petition to keep the golf course however at this time no knowledge was shared on how many trees were going to be removed, so this was completely overlooked.

This land not only a haven for all ages of people but for a lot of wildlife, I’ve seen myself, so many different types of birds some quite rare, in these trees. These trees provide homes as well as our oxygen, I’m shocked that anyone would consider it ok to take away so many, especially in an area that needs more not less. I live quite near to the golf course and have done my entire life, and the air quality is definitely deteriorating in this part of London.

I do know that trees are protected, my manager at the golf course cut one down as it was causing a hazard, this caused a major problem and he was due to pay quite a hefty fine until he explained the issue with the tree and that he was planting another one. I don’t understand why it wasn’t ok for him to cut one down yet cutting 800 down isn’t even being made an issue.

Planting 800 hundred new trees in replacement of the ones that are just ‘in the way’ isn’t in my opinion good enough. We should be planting 800 more. Some of these trees have been there for over 30 years, they take a while to grow, we need the ones that are here already.

We need these trees, for us to live and breath. They are homes and above that they are living organisms, it’s a mass killing not only for the trees and their inhabitants but for us as humans. Where will we be getting our Oxygen from when the air is to dirty to breath, the shops?

Something needs to be done, is anyone with me on this?

Yours kindly,

Charlotte.

Cutting down 800 tress isn't going to kill anyone. You are blowing this out if proportion. A better argument would be the importance of parks in built up areas both for providing opportunities for expertise and recreation as well as the well known connection between nature and good mental health. You should consider just how many public parks there are in the area and what kind of special utility value this park has that makes it more important to preserve the green space than to build 900 new homes. The housing crisis is a major problem in Britain and 900 homes is not an insignificant number of new builds in London. If I lived near there I would feel exactly the same way but NIMBYism really isn't compelling. Find a strange never argument and you will be more likely to succeed. Good luck.
