Hello
We are considering moving to Birmingham selly oak and bournville areas
What primaries ( reception ) and junior ( as my daughter is in year 6) would you reccommend ?

We will rent first then buy ...so the choice of the house would purely be based on that so pretty flexible ( kings Heath and Mosley or accepting other suggestions ) Many thanks

If you look down the other recent conversations in MN Local for Birmingham, there are 3 or 4 asking about moving to Birmingham, in the same areas you are looking - it's probably worth you reading through those, and then asking any specifics after that. Smile

Having called all the primaries and no spaces for year 6 that will delay my move 😢

What dd admissions say about Y6 places? There must be some somewhere in the city (bearing in mind there are 300 primary schools!).
Just not in the area you're moving to. What about schools slightly further away, such as Green Meadow(yes, I know re Ofsted, but it's a school place!), Tiverton, Raddlebarn, St Brigid's?

Caulk · 31/10/2017 23:31

Princethorpe and Woodcock Hill always have spaces. You’re about 7min drive to either.
If you need public transport then look to the number 11 bus route and follow it northbound (away from Bourneville)

Cinnamonlily06 · 31/10/2017 23:40

I will make few more calls tomorrow 😓 Is that now she is in a good primary here but need to move house and I can't and won't afford the rent in London once again ....

The new Primary at Bournville Secondary school (really confusing I know, but there is already a school - well 2 schools - called Bournville Infants and Bournville Juniors which are completely separate) .... doesn't have a Yr6 yet I don't think, as it only started last year (16/17) with it's first Reception class, so - as far as I understand - it only has Reception and Yr1, and then Yrs 7 - 11 at the moment.
I agree with KingsHeathen and Caulk, that there are always spaces becoming available during the year. There are hundreds of Primary schools in Birmingham - it is the biggest local authority in Europe. There are also lots of reasons why people move about. From Gibbons Road, there must be 20 schools within about a 3 mile radius.
Have you tried ringing School Admissions, centrally ?

Cinnamonlily06 · 05/11/2017 17:54

Yes did ring and admission said waiting time could be around 3/4 weeks for year 6
I applied for secondary from my friend house address but misses the boat for grammars

You are not allowed to apply from a friend’s address. It’s against all of the rules.

You need to let them know you don’t actually live there and apply correctly when you do have your own address. It really won’t help as any offer could be withdrawn on the basis of address fraud.

If you are set on one of the popular schools then you will need to Home school until a place becomes available.

W00t · 07/11/2017 10:44

How will you provide evidence of living at your friend's address? If you apply for a school place in Birmingham, but aren't already in the LA database (because your child isn't in a Birmingham school, or born in Birmingham health authority) you have to send evidence as part of the application (I know, because I didn't, and panicked after the deadline had passed, tho it was fine, because I was in the council tax data base).
If you are found out committing school place fraud, your child will have their place withdrawn, and as it is after the deadline, you'll be a late applicant and be penalised- you could end up with a dodgy school miles and miles away!

Cinnamonlily06 · 08/11/2017 23:24

As soon as I rent my place I will rectify the application as we will be only 2 houses away avd if I didn't I would have missed the deadline 😓

Hi CinnamonLily06 have you moved to Bournville? How have been your experience so far? Have you find nice schools?

I am currently living in Wirral, but looking at to move to Bournville too.

However, I am not so convinced it will be a good decision. I like the countryside and Birmingham sounds too busy to me.
