The PiP-Ox Study at the University of Nottingham is investigating how the placenta functions, particularly focusing on blood flow and oxygen delivery within the placenta. In women who have small babies and pre-eclampsia it is likely that these markers of how the placenta is working will be different and this is what the team is investigating.
If you are aged 18-45, have an uncomplicated single pregnancy (not twins), are booked to deliver at QMC or City Hospital and had a body mass index (BMI) less than 30 at booking in - and, if you are willing to have an ultrasound and MRI scan at around 30 weeks - the PiP-Ox team would love to hear from you.
The MRI scan will take around one hour and the team is looking for a total of 100 women to take part in the study.
