Information on living in Chester

Hi

A job opportunity has come up in Chester. Before we plan a visit for ourselves, could anyone shed some light on the area. Where are the nicer areas in Chester (and therefore good schools. Eldest is in reception, youngest at nursery) and which are the areas to avoid? I see there are some areas which may have more students due to the university, which we would want to avoid.
From my look at Google images, the town centre looks gorgeous! But that's literally all I know about the place. I'm sure it's also a lot cheaper than where we are in Surrey.
Thanks in advance....

Saughull is very nice by the village. The part by Blacon isn't my first pick as there are far nicer places for the same price without the headache of living close to such a tough area.

Saighton is nice but prices will probably drop substantially with all the new builds. There used to be lots of rentals there because of the barracks which meant the population was quite transient. I feel like it's still finding its identity having lost its transient population and will have a substantial influx with the new housing going in.

Guilden Sutton- probably the best village in Cheshire! (Might be a tad biased as I grew up there!)
Great primary school, feeds into good secondary, lovely church and community.

dr Yes. Run by the same guy who runs Mickle Trafford. Love him and I'm not Christian. Guilden Sutton has a lovely community feel to it. I have quite a few friends parents who live there. My friends either can't afford the homes there or have moved away.

Is it still Rev Mark? He did the funerals of both my parents and I really liked him.

There are school buses from Chester to Wirral grammar schools. Plenty of children travel in.
I love Chester but live in West Wirral.
Good luck and welcome in advance.

Chester's lovely but it depends on whether you're looking for city/town/village life.
We live 15mins drive from the station in a small village but it's easy to get into the centre.
My personal opinion is slightly different on some areas. I would not live in Blacon, Lache, Saltney or Ellesmere Port (although towards Stanney is ok).
More southern (but still 15-20min commute) are places like Tattenhall, Farndon, Malpas, all smaller villages.
Schools wise there's tons of excellent primary choices we really are spoilt for choice and even secondary they're all pretty good with plenty of choices state or private.

I'm originally from Surrey too but we've been in and around Chester for over 20 years now - the past 10 in Saughall so feel free to PM me if you have specific Saughall questions. The schools in Chester are really great, without exception - everybody will tell you to avoid 'rough' Blacon but it is only rough by comparison to the rest of the city, not compared to anywhere else! Your children are small still but when they get older (assuming it is still running!), the 15-minute bus service into the city centre is a godsend.
Parking at Chester station can be a pain, though, so I would look at the other stops along the line to wherever it is he needs to be.

Hi everyone. I am new to Mumsnet and it seems like the best place for some good information. Me and my family of 3 are relocating to the Chester area within the next few months. I worked there contracting for 9 months in 2017 and everybody that visited loved the place. I worked in Broughton but I had a flat in Chester city centre so I travelled through saltney everyday which didn't look the best area from the kebab shops and bookies at Victoria road across from Morrisons. However we have seen nice houses further down into saltney at beechwood road etc and the street view looks nice on google. I am wondering does anyone live in the area and know how safe it is to raise a family and walk your dog at night etc? I must spend so stupid but I thought I would ask. We want somewhere as close to the centre as possible without braking the bank.
If there is any I formation on deeside as well that would be great as we have seen a house there on Aston road but it is a bit further out than we like. Thank advance for your help.
