Good Private tutor

My child is in year 5 and we would like to book a private tutor to tutor him every week. How many hours is needed and which subjects? Is it just English and maths?

Does anyone know of a very good tutor that they have used and can recommend?

You don’t say what you want to get out of the tutoring.... is it for selective school entry (in which case, which schools are you interested in?), because you’re worried he’s falling behind with schoolwork, or just to boost his SAT results?

Well, have you spoken to his school? How far behind is he? Do they have a support plan or interventions in place?

He hasn't fallen behind at all but he attends a school with homework once a week and he's moaning at doing them!

He gets fed up easily and will do the absolute minimum if he had a choice.

We wanted a tutor to help him with homework and to give him some extra work for practise and getting him used to it before secondary school. Also an extra boost for SATS

If he hates doing once-a-week homework, why put him (and yourself) through the agony of a tutor and more homework if you don’t need to? He’s only little. Surely it’s just setting you up for a lot of rows and maybe turning him off school completely?
In my experience, it’s different once they get to secondary school as everyone has nightly homework - they might not like it, but they just get on with it.
