Private schools

I'm in need of some opinions on private schools please. I have never thought about sending my child/children to private school primarily down to cost but also for social reasons - not wanting to only be around privileged people etc....however, my parents have offered to pay for it due to a recent inheritance plus I've been talking to teacher friends who are basically saying it's a no brainer and I should definitely take up the offer because the state of the education system is so dire etc etc.
Our nearest school would be St Davids in WW, does anyone have experience of this school?

My daughter will be going into Year 2 and my son is a few years away from reception. It is a scary thought the amount of money we would have to spend to see two kids through private education. Is it uncommon to send your child private for primary but not secondary?

Thanks for any opinions on any of the above!

I have no experience of St Davids but it looks like a very small school will it survive since its takeover by Wishford? There are huge sums owed when looking at the accounts in Companies House and the fact the accounts were prepared in 'a going concern' format would raise queries with me. If it folds what are your options?

Also will you be able to put the full amount for both children for all the years plus spare for fee rises (often 5% or more per year) into trust as otherwise you may find the money is at risk e.g for nursing home fees or if something happens to your parents.

DD went down the private for primary and grammar for secondary route and she is far happier in a state school than she ever was in an independent for a whole variety of reasons. In hindsight we should have moved her into state from Y3 but that is our experience and everyone's options and situation will be different. Take a look at the school and ask a lot of questions, if it is so small will there be friendship issues and curriculum or sport limitations? Is your current primary doing a good job and what will this school add? Could the money be used in another way in the future such as for school trips, Ivy League summer camps, house deposits, etc?

My children went to St David's before we left London. There's a good cultural mix there so wouldn't worry too much about that.

If you live locally though, all the state schools in the WW/Hayes/Langley area are very good. Where is your DS at the moment.

Personally I'd save the money for secondary unless your DS is struggling where he is at the moment or your local school are awful. Realise this sounds strange as we used St David's but mine go to a small state school in the village we moved to and are flourishing just as well.
